Summer Financial Aid

Be aware that the summer term is considered the “trailing” semester in the financial aid award year (fall, spring, summer). This means that if you have received the maximum annual Direct Loan and Pell Grant for the fall and/or spring semesters, you may not have remaining eligibility for the summer at Tarleton State University.

If you are planning to attend summer school at Tarleton State University, and are interested in obtaining financial aid for the summer, please click on the student category that best matches to your situation:

The summer semester is made up of multiple start and end dates. To receive a summer Direct Student Loan, you will need to be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours.

Please find out more about Summer Financial Aid Disbursement Information.

In the summer semester Tarleton is offering several options for enrollment.  For financial aid purposes, these various start dates are considered to be modules within a semester.  Regulations require that we apply financial aid to your account when you have “begun enrollment at a half time status”.

This impacts how your financial aid will disburse (credit) directly to your account.

Your financial aid will disburse on your bill according to “attending hours”.  What this means is that the “module” or session in which you will be attending at least 6 credit hours or more for the summer semester , the funds will disburse.   Below are some examples of what this means:

Student A:

Enrolled in 3 credits for the May 13-June 10 term

Enrolled in 3 credits for the June 11-July 8 term

In this case the financial aid will disburse or credit on your bill 10 days prior to the May 13 term.  This would be the term in which you are “attending” 6 credit hours of enrollment.

Student B:

Enrolled in 6 credits for the May 13-June 10 term

In this case, the financial aid will disburse or credit to your bill before that term because you are “attending” 6 hours as of the May 13 term.

 Student C:

Enrolled in 3 credit hours for May 13-June 10 term

Enrolled in 3 credit hours for July 9-August 5 term

In this case, the financial aid will disburse or credit to your bill 10 days prior to the June 11.  This would be the term in which you are “attending” 6 credit hours of enrollment.

Please note, if you are awarded financial aid for the summer semester and only complete one of your sessions within the summer and do not maintain enrollment of 6 credits, you will not receive any aid.

I did not complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (Fafsa) at any point during this school year:

Complete a Fafsa at www.fafsa.ed.gov and list our school code, 003631. This will enable our office to retrieve your FAFSA results and determine your eligibility.
