Housing Application Instructions

Please follow the instructions below that fit your status to apply for housing.

Incoming / New Residents

1. Apply to Tarleton

You need to first apply to Tarleton State University. Look for the deadline to apply for admission to Tarleton State University. You will receive your student NTNET ID #.

2. Tarleton Residency Requirements

Residing on-campus creates an environment where students are more successful, therefore, Tarleton supports a live-on requirement of:

2 (two) academic years for:
  • All "First Time" students who are under 21 years of age, prior to the start of his/her registered semester
  • All "Transfer" students who are under 21 years of age with less than 12 (twelve) credit hours, prior to the start of his/her registered semester
1 (one) academic year for:
  • All "Transfer" students who are under 21 years of age with 12 (twelve) credit hours or more and less than 60 (sixty) credit hours, prior to the start of his/her registered semester

Students who meet the requirements while in an academic year Housing Contract will be required to fulfill the applicable contract. Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions for more information about on-campus requirements.

3. Special Accommodation
  • Foster students need to communicate year around housing needs by contacting our Housing Assignment Coordinator at 254-968-9447.
  • Students with physical facility requirements for special needs should register with Center for Access and Testing Services. Please contact 254-968-9400 or visit www.tarleton.edu/CAAT.
4. Tarleton Meal Plan Requirements

Students assigned in a residence hall environment will be required to purchase a minimum 10 meal plan. Students assigned in an apartment environment and who commute to Tarleton have the option to purchase any available meal plan. First year students assigned to an apartment environment will be required to maintain a minimum 10 meal plan.

5. Complete the Online Housing Application
  1. Click on the "My Gateway" tab at the top of the www.tarleton.edu website.
  2. Log in using the credentials provided by Admissions (NTNET ID, birthdate mmddyy).
  3. Click on the Duck Trax folder and click on "Student Housing" when the menu options expand.
  4. Review the application links and select the appropriate application period.
  5. Click to begin and complete the application and contract process.

6. Pay the $100 deposit.

You can pay your $100 deposit using one of the following methods:

  • Pay with Mastercard/Visa/Discover On-Line
  • Mail Check or Money Order issued to "Tarleton State University":

*Each method requires that you provide the student's first and last name and student NTNET ID #.

8. Become an Admitted Student to Tarleton State University!

Congratulations!  Once each step of the housing application is complete,

  • On-line Housing Application is complete
  • Deposit is received
  • Admission to Tarleton is confirmed

you are eligible for assignment on-campus. New Applicants assignment process is available now. If you are an admitted student and you have submitted your housing application and deposit, please wait approximately 1-2 business days for your housing application to be processed and completed before attempting the self-assignment process.

First time in college students and transfer students with less than 30 hours may complete the assignment process if the Housing Application has been completed and without proof of Bacterial Meningitis vaccination. Proof of vaccination must be submitted to Magnus Health Systems no later than August 1. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the removal of your registered courses and removal from your on campus housing assignment. Students who provide proof of Bacterial Meningitis between August 1 and August 17 will be re-assigned based on space availability.

Keep in mind your deposit is one-time only and will remain on file for as long as you are a resident of on-campus housing.  Refer to your Housing Contract for cancellation dates to qualify for a deposit refund.

Occasionally assignments change due to cancellations. We encourage you to check your assignment and roommate information throughout the assignment period.

1. Tarleton Residency Requirements

  • All "First Time" students who are under 21 years of age, prior to the start of his/her registered semester. Students with dual credit and AP credit are still classified as a "First Time" student.
  • All "Transfer" students who are under 21 years of age with less than 12 (twelve) credit hours, prior to the start of his/her registered semester.
1 (one) academic year for:
  • All "Transfer" students who are under 21 years of age with 12 (twelve) credit hours or more and less than 60 (sixty) credit hours, prior to the start of his/her registered semester.

Students who meet the requirements while in an academic year Housing Contract will be required to fulfill the applicable contract. Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions for more information about on-campus requirements.

Students who indicate a desire to be released from their second year residential requirement must indicate that preference at the end of their housing application. Students with the highest grade point average will be given priority if students are released from their second year residential requirement.

2. Complete the Online Housing Application
  1. Apply Online Housing ApplicationLog in to "My Gateway."
  2. Choose the Returning Application and Contract.
  3. Complete the fields thoroughly and click "Next Step" to advance through the process.
  4. Read and abide by the Housing Contract. Note: Returning students will complete a 2 year contract, however, they will not have to fulfill the Fall 2015-Spring 2016 academic year if they have already resided on campus for 2 academic years. It will be necessary to submit an intent process during Spring 2016 to indicate intent for the Fall 2015-Spring 2016 academic year.
  5. Read over Your Application Summary carefully.
  6. Click "Finish" to submit your application after you have approved the contract.

How to Login to Online Housing Application

  1. Log on to My Gateway
  2. Click on "Student" tab
  3. Click on "Housing Application"

3. Special Accommodation

4. Get Assigned

We will assign students in the following order:

  • Students who wish to retain their current space, if available, will be assigned to their space first
  • Students who wish to remain in their current building in different spaces will be assigned to their building based on space availability.
  • Students requesting the shared bedroom option in Bosque Crossing with roommate preferences will be assigned next.
  • Finally, students who wish to move to a new building will be assigned based on space availability in application completion date order.

5. Change Room Assignment

Note: Assignments change as cancellations are received and the Housing Application/Contract preferences are used to identify each student's desire for a room change. If a student was not able to secure a preferred assignment during the assignment process, the Housing Assignment Coordinator will review preferences and re-assign students based on application submission date and space availability. Verification of room change will be visible once processed in the "Assignments" link of the Housing Application website (processing usually takes approximately 48 hours).
