Relief for West, Texas

April 23, 2013

Tarleton Family:

I wanted to provide a final update on the Relief Efforts from last week.

Last Thursday morning, the call went out to campus that supplies were being collected for victims of the West Fertilizer Plant explosion. By noon, supplies were rolling into the Thompson Student Center. Members of Alpha Phi Omega were on site throughout the day to assist donors. By 4 pm, members of APO were on their way to West with 4 truck loads of supplies.

Throughout the evening, more supplies arrived. By noon on Friday, there were so many donations that a semi truck was required to transport them. APO members escorted the semi to the final drop off destination on Friday afternoon.

In addition to supplies, monetary donations totaling over $1,200 were collected and donated to help the local relief efforts.

As West continues to recover from this devastating event, more support will be needed in the months to follow. We encourage you to continue to show your Tarleton pride by seeking ways to support this community.

Again, thank you for your generosity.

Tarleton Family:

Your generosity has been overwhelming over the past 24 hours. We have received a tremendous amount of donations both physical and monetary.

Physical items donated overnight. Twice as much was donated on Thursday.

I stated yesterday that we would continue to take donations today (Friday) through noon. Late last night a message was released from the West City Government:

From city government: All the goods donated are wonderful, but we have received so much, it has become a problem. At this time there are no real material needs for supplies. What will make the biggest effect is to donate money to the relief at Point West Bank & Trust (254) 826-5333 or State National Bank (254) 826-3741. (Via Hill County Emergency Management)

Location of Student Center - MapTo honor the wishes of the City of West, we ask that future donations be monetary only. You can bring monetary donations to the Thompson Student Center Information Desk through noon today. Future donations should be made to the institutions identified above.

We will continue to provide updates on how you can provide assistance. All further communication will be posted to the spotlight section of the Tarleton homepage titled Relief for West, Texas.

Once again, the Tarleton family has shown its love and support of those in need. Thank you.
