The Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Educational Center is excited to have the artwork of local artist Kay Wirz on display for a colorful show that will span the holiday season.

Kay is perhaps best known for her incorporation of geometric shapes and features into most her pieces.  Her pieces also feature prominent yet subtle colors and subject matter.  With degrees in both Art Education and Interior Design it's easy to see how each plays in a role in her unique style.

"I believe my art is a combination of my experienced intuition and my acquired skills," says Kay. While my techniques tend to reflect the precision of my architectural and color theory background, I’m most drawn to the surprises and possibilities for new color and pattern to be found in each piece; to the challenge of making a new whole according to what I fell and see with my “mind’s eye”.  I’m constantly intrigued by the endless substance and variety to be found in pattern, super-imposed shapes and color relationships.  Drawing is necessary for me.  It is the catalyst between understanding how things are put together and selectively beginning to interpret what I think and feel.  Inspiration for subject matter varies with each new body of work."
