Dr. Owsley joined the faculty in July, 2015 as Professor and Department head.  He spent the last 24 years as an Extension specialist with Auburn University and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, focusing on food animal quality assurance, animal care/well-being and environmental stewardship.  From 1982 to 1990, he was an Extension Animal Scientist with the University of Georgie, focusing on swine production and nutrition.  Dr. Owsley completed his Ph.D. at Texas Tech University, and his B.S. and M.S. at Texas A&M University.  He was born in San Antonio and grew up in Copperas Cove.

Randy Harp was reared on a family farm in northeastern Oklahoma where he was very active in 4-H and raised beef and swine. He obtained a B.S. degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University in 1976, a M.S. degree in Animal Science at New Mexico State University in 1979, and a Ph. D. from Oklahoma State University in 1998.  He is married to Dana Davis Harp who is a science teacher at Gilbert Intermediate in the Stephenville, TX ISD.  They have three children and five grandchildren.

During his time as an undergraduate at OSU, he was a member of the 1976 National Champion Meats Team and throughout his career has coached over 40 first place collegiate teams that included 12 national championships. In 2013, Randy was the recipient of the American Meat Science Association Intercollegiate Meat Judging Meritorious Service Award. 

From 1979-1981 and 1982-1984, he taught animal science at East Texas State University.  From 1981-1982, he was a research farm unit supervisor at North Carolina State University.  In 1984, he moved to Wilburton, OK and served as Department Head and Instructor of Meat/Food/Animal Science at Eastern Oklahoma State College for 15 years.  He returned to Texas A&M University-Commerce (formerly East Texas State College) for one year as an Assistant Professor in Animal Sciences teaching animal/meat science.   Randy currently serves as a Professor of Animal Sciences in the Department of Animal Sciences and Veterinary Technology at Tarleton State University.  He has taught animal science courses which have included beef, swine and sheep/goat production, livestock management, animal growth and development, meat science, meat processing and merchandising, processed meats, market animal evaluation, animal breeding, general animal science, graduate seminar, advanced livestock production, and advanced swine and sheep/goat production.   Furthermore, he has over 50 Peer Reviewed Journal Articles, Symposium Contributions (invited speaker, posters and papers), Conference Proceedings and Book Contributions.  He serves as the graduate student coordinator for the ASVT department.

Dr. Kinman obtained her B.S. from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, M.S. at Texas A&M University-Commerce and after 7 years in the industry returned to school and completed her Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University. Following completion of her Doctorate she was the Meat Science Instructor and Director of the Clark Meat Science Center at Oregon State University. Following a short time with Handtmann Inc. as the Director of Meat Technologies, she returned to academics at Iowa State University as a Lecturer and Internship Coordinator in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department. Dr. Kinman joined the Tarleton faculty in the fall of 2014 as an Assistant Professor focusing on ingredient functionality in value-added processed meat products as well as pathogen survival during common consumer food handling methods.

Mrs. Price joined the faculty in September 2014 as an instructor and coordinator of Tarleton’s Equine Assisted Therapeutic Riding program, also known as TREAT Riding. As she worked through her bachelor’s degree in animal industries (2011) here at TSU, she worked with the program as a student worker and then later as the graduate assistant. While finishing her master’s in business administration (2013) also at TSU, she completed her registered level therapeutic riding instructor certification with PATH, International.
