New Master of Accounting Program for Fall 2014

The deadline for submitting applications for COBA Graduate Programs is Friday, July 25, 2014.

The department of Accounting, Finance, and Economics is pleased to offer the Master of Accounting (MAcc) degree starting this fall.

The accounting programs at Tarleton State University have been restructured to better prepare students to become Certified Public Accounts (CPAs). Most states, including Texas, require students to complete 150 credit hours (specified by state) before taking the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Exam. That means you will need a bachelor's degree (120 hours) and an additional 30 hours of upper level credit to fulfill the requirements from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy to sit for the CPA exam.

Starting this fall, the best way for Tarleton students to prepare for a successful career in public accounting is through the redesigned BBA in Accounting, followed up by the Master of Accounting (MAcc) program. For students who earned (or currently are completing) their baccalaureate degree in Accounting, a tailored program can be designed for you to obtain the Master of Accounting degree, as an additional 30 hours (upper division) are needed to take the CPA exam.

Contact Dr. Keldon Bauer, Department Head of Accounting, Finance and Economics, or Jodie Dearing, Graduate Program Manager for the College of Business Administration, for more information on the Master of Accounting program.

The emphasis of this 30 hour program is to:

  • Provide knowledge and hours required to sit for the CPA exam
  • Provide a strong knowledge of accounting principles and business applications
  • Develop the technical proficiency and leadership traits sought by firms in all industries
  • Prepare students to make an immediate impact in the public, corporate, governmental, or nonprofit accounting fields

To pursue a Master of Accounting degree, you must meet the Degree Requirements, including holding a baccalaureate degree in Accounting prior to the start of this  program.

Admissions
