Message from the Dean

Welcome to Tarleton State University’s College of Education website! There are lots of innovative and exciting things happening in the college, and I’m glad you stopped by to explore all that we have to offer.  The College of Education houses four unique departments: Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Kinesiology, Psychological Sciences, and Counseling. We currently offer 11 baccalaureate and master’s degrees with a variety of options and one doctoral degree, the Ed.D. in Educational Administration. We're constantly working to provide cutting edge degree programs and hope to add new options this year.  We also provide a broad range of educator certification programs, both traditional and alternative.  For more information on routes to certification, I invite you to explore our departmental pages as well as the Educator Preparation Services website.

The College of Education believes in accountability and embraces continuous improvement. We are held accountable to standards by the Texas legislature. Tarleton is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and our Teacher Education Program is approved by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC), and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Because of our commitment to offering programs grounded in best practices, we will be seeking additional national accreditations in the near future.

The College of Education began as a Department of Education at Tarleton State College over four decades ago, but you won't find anything antiquated about our teaching strategies and techniques!  If you are a prospective student, I hope you'll find our online resources helpful as you make a very important decision, and if you've already chosen wisely and call yourself a Tarleton Texan, please know that our faculty and staff are here for you! Feel free to stop by my office for a visit or contact me by phone or email if I can be of help in any way.

   Dr. Jordan M. Barkley, Dean
