Purpose

This course is designed to introduce outdoor adventure activities in leisure settings. Students will acquire knowledge about and participate in a variety of adventure activities. Development of technical, equipment, safety, activity, and leadership skills is also included.

This course places great importance on attendance and participation. Punctual class attendance and preparation is expected. Trip attendance is mandatory. Appropriate clothing is expected for class. Basic outdoor activity equipment is required or acquired at the RSC. During the course, you will have the opportunity to experience a variety of outdoor adventure activities. Active participation is the best way to learn. We will attempt as many activities as possible, taking into consideration weather, schedule, time, cost, distance, equipment, and interest. Open thought and discussion are encouraged. You will be free to learn and explore new concepts and ideas. We will view things in different ways. Everyone is encouraged to express their opinion. In this class, it is possible that at times you may experience fatigue, frustration, or fear. Communicate and make your feelings known so that others can help you. Emphasis is placed on treating others with courtesy, kindness, support, dignity, and respect. Bring your sense of humor.
