Texan Company Welcomes New Cadre Members

The Texan Battalion is excited to announce the addition of two new cadre members to our ROTC program.  Our new Professor of Military Science, Lieutenant Colonel Jason Vranes, replaces LTC Ron Henry who left the program at the end of last school year.  Likewise, our program welcomed a new Recruiting Operations Officer, Captain Tommy Quarles, who replaced Captain Cooper.

LTC Vranes

LTC Jason Vranes is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York and an Air Defense Artillery Officer with 18 years of active duty service.  During his active duty career, LTC Vranes has been deployed overseas five times including three combat tours in Iraq and Qatar.  LTC Vranes came to Tarleton State University after serving for three years at the United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany.  LTC Vranes assumed command of the Texan Battalion which includes the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas and Texas A&M University - Central Texas in Killeen, Texas.  “Leading an ROTC unit is something I’ve wanted to do for a while,” said Vranes. “I have desired to be in a teaching and learning environment and to have the opportunity to train and mentor future Army officers.”

Captain Quarles

Captain Quarles is a graduate of Stephenville High School and member of the 2000 graduating class at Tarleton State University.  After graduating with a bachelor of science in education, Quarles got his Masters in 2004 and then commissioned into the Army as a transportation corp officer.  Captain Quarles has had two deployments to Iraq and has been stationed in Ft. Carson, Colorado and South Korea.  Captain Quarles is married to Larrah Quarles and they are expecting their first child in March 2013.
