LTC Jason Vranes

 LTC Jason Vranes

LTC Jason R. Vranes was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery officer in 1994 through the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.  After graduating from the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course in 1995, he was assigned as a Launcher Platoon Leader in 2-43 ADA Battalion in Fort Polk, Louisiana.  He was transferred to the 1-7 ADA Battalion in Kaiserslautern, Germany so he could be stationed with his wife.

During this tour, LTC Vranes served as a Battery Executive Officer where he deployed to Prince Sultan Air Base in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in support of OPERATION NORTHERN WATCH.   Upon finishing this tour, LTC Vranes attended the Field Artillery Advanced Course in 1999.  In 2000, he was assigned back to Heidelbarg Germany and served on the V Corps G3 staff in the Corps Air Defense Element.  LTC Vranes went on to serve in Ansbach Germany as the HHB Commander, 6th Battalion, 52nd Regiment Air Defense Artillery as part of the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. During this assignment, LTC Vranes deployed his unit on two separate occasions. 

The first deployment was in 2001 in support of Operation Northern Watch and the second one was in 2003 in support of  OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.  Upon re-deployment LTC Vranes was assigned to 1st Personnel Command in Heidelberg, Germany as the Assignments Officer for Combat Arms officers stationed throughout all of Europe.  After departing Germany in 2006, LTC Vranes attended the Air Command and Staff College in Montgomery, Alabama.   Upon graduating, LTC Vranes was then stationed to Fort Bliss, Texas and served as both the Battalion S3 and the Battalion XO with 2nd Battalion, 43rd Regiment Air Defense Artillery as part of the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.  From 2008-2009, LTC Vranes completed a 15 month tour to Doha, Qatar in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.   Upon redeployment, LTC Vranes was assigned to the United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany where he served as a Missile Defense Planner in the J5/J8.   After completing this joint assignment, Jason was selected to serve as the Professor of Military Science at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. 

LTC Vranes holds a BS from the United States Military Academy, an MBA from Liberty University, and a Master of Military Operational Air and Science Degree from the Air Command and Staff College.  His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC);  Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC); Joint Service Achievement Medal; Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (3 OLC); and the Parachutist Badge.  LTC Vranes hails from Knoxville, Tennessee and is married to the former Wendy Crosby of Battle Creek, Michigan and they have one son, Micah 10 and four daughters, Grace 12, Faith 8, Hope 5 and Joy 2.
