PREM Events Lab: Margarita Ball

THE 22nd ANNUAL MARGARITA BALL, benefiting Children's Charities of Fort Worth, hosted more than 1800 attendees and was the semester's second major event for Legendary Weddings and Special Events.  The benefit gala occurred Saturday, 11/13, from 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m.  The event was by invitation only and admission was one new, unwrapped $35 toy per person, or purchase of one $40 gift card at the door (for purchase of toys after the ball). 

Students in the Event Planning & Management class were joined by volunteers from the Promotional Writing class and by new Public Relations & Event Management students to work on decorations, silent-auction setup and management, admission to the event, coat check, checkout after the auctions, post-ball breakdown, post-auction sales, and toy sorting for distribution to needy children in the region. 

When the ball began, charities already had requested 1,324 Christmas toys for needy children and were scheduled to pick up their allotments the morning after the Margarita Ball.  The ball director was nervous that there might not be enough attendees arriving with toys to allow all requests to be filled that weekend.  But Sunday morning, when the donated toys were sorted and packed for charity pickup, there were exactly 1, 324 toys ... not one more and not one less.  Later requests will be filled by toys purchased with gift cards collected at the ball.
