Graduate Degree Program

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The newly approved Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program offers options for a major in Nursing Administration or Nursing Education. The nursing administration major will prepare graduates to assume leadership roles for unit, department, service line, or the system-level of health care organizations. The major in nursing education will prepare graduates to teach patients, families, health care consumers, nurses, and nursing students.

Curriculum

All nursing graduate students complete 11 credit hours of the core courses. Students complete 24-25 credit hours of coursework in the chosen major. There are two courses which include clinical in each major. Each student chooses one of three degree completion options to finish the program of study. The total course credit hours vary from 39 to 42 depending on major and degree completion option chosen.

Course Delivery

Nursing professors plan to use a hybrid or blended learning approach which combines traditional face-to-face classroom and simulation sessions with online learning activities through the Blackboard course management system. Nursing faculty are working with the College of Business Administration faculty to broaden the nursing graduate student’s experience. Some courses in both majors are taught by faculty from the College of Business Administration; the format for these courses is face-to-face and/or online.
