You Must Get Through the Winter First

Lindsay Paige Wright

You must get through the Winter first.
There is no leaping right to Spring.
You must endure the icy burst
Before you hear the red bird sing.

You tremble, thinking all is lost,
That ice keeps all things trapped in place,
That no one wants to thaw the frost
And wipe the snowflake from your face.

Just let it melt and trickle down,
But give warm smiles like you’ve rehearsed.
Though snow is deep, you cannot drown.
You must get through the Winter first.
