Policies and Procedures

The following policies and procedures may not cover every situation or eventuality that may occur within the facility.  Final interpretation of Recreation Sports Center Policies and Procedures will be left to the discretion of the Department of Recreational Sports Administration in order to maintain the safety and well-being of all members.

Bicycles, Skateboards, and In-line Skates Policy

Bicycles, skateboards and in-line skates are not allowed in the Rec Center.  Bicycle racks are located outside of the facility for bicycle parking

Cardiovascular / Track Rules

Cardio equipment (ellipticals, recumbent cycles, upright cycles, steppers, and treadmills) is available in the upper level of the RSC.  Proper athletic attire must be worn on all equipment.

The upper level of the RSC also features and indoor track.  Eleven (11) laps is equivalent to one (1) mile.  The track direction alternates on a daily basis to reduce the wear and tear on the surface of the track.

Children Policy

Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in the Center.

Equipment Check-Out
  • Racquetball and badminton racquets and other sports equipment, like basketballs, volleyballs and dodgeballs can be checked out for member use.  All check-out equipment is for use in the Rec Center only.
  • A valid member ID must be presented to check out equipment.  The ID will be held until equipment is turned back in at the control desk.
  • The equipment will be inspected upon return.  If damages occur, the Rec Member or guest will be responsible for the cost of replacing the item.
Facility Behavior
  • The Rec Center is a place for exercise, fun and relaxation.  Abusive, vulgar or degrading language will not be tolerated.
  • Facilities and equipment should be used for their designed purpose.
  • If damages occur to Rec Center equipment or facilities, the member or guest will be responsible for the cost of the repair.
  • Any individual not following appropriate policies or behaviors will be asked to leave the facility.
Indoor Climbing Rules and Regulations

General

  • All climbers must sign a TSU Indoor Climbing Informed Consent and Release of Liability Agreement. Patrons under 18 must have the form signed by a parent or guardian
  • All climbers, regardless of ability, must pass a skill check/test.
  • All climbers and belayers must wear shoes. No bare feet or sandals on climbing wall or floor.
  • Minimum age to belay is 16
  • Personal harnesses and shoes may be used at the climbing center at the discretion of the climbing wall staff. Climbers must demonstrate proper use of their equipment.
  • Use only provided belay devices.
  • Jewelry should be removed before climbing, especially rings, watches, and large earrings.
  • Chalk must be in an enclosed in a chalk sock. No loose chalk is allowed. (No zip-lock bags or containers.)
  • Please report to the climbing wall staff any injures, loose holds, or damage to the climbing wall or equipment.
  • Children younger than 16, must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Food and beverages besides water is not allowed in the climbing area. Water must be in a sports bottle or closed container.

The Climbing Center Staff has final say on safety issues. Climbers disregarding these rules may lose climbing privileges.

Bouldering

  • Climber’s feet may not exceed the designated foot-hold color for bouldering.
  • Spotters are highly encouraged while bouldering.
  • Boulderers should give way to roped climbers and should not occur below roped climbers.

Top Roping

  • The Belayer Skills Authorization is valid for one year from the date of verification and then must be renewed with no additional charge.
  • Climbers must climb under the top carabiner attachments to which they are connected.
  • Belayers must keep their brake hand on the rope at all times while belaying
  • All belayers must be attached to a floor anchor with a carabiner.
  • All climbers must be tied in with a figure 8 follow through knot and double overhand knot to secure the end. (No clipping into the rope with a carabiner)
  • These rules are provided for the wellbeing of all parties; however, they do not guarantee safety. Participants who choose not abide by these rules may have their climbing privileges revoked.

Guest Passes

Rec Sports is pleased to offer Guest Passes for a $10.00 fee per day. The guest must be accompanied by a member of the Rec Sports Center.
Please note: Rec Sports does not allow anyone under the age of 16 to access the facility.

Gym Rules
  • Absolutely no profanity.
  • No gum allowed.
  • No food or drinks (except water bottles) are allowed in recreational activity areas.
  • Court shoes are required at all times.
  • No open-toed shoes, open-back shoes, or boots are allowed at any time.
  • Appropriate attire is required.
  • No unruly behavior.
  • Throw away all of your trash before leaving the area.
    Failure to adhere to these rules may result in loss of center privileges.
Lost and Found Policy
  • The Rec Center is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
  •  Members are encouraged to store all personal belongings securely in the lockers.
  • Staff members are not permitted to hold equipment, valuables or bags for members.
  • Found items should be turned in at the Control Desk.
  • Equipment found in all Rec Sports facilities will be sent to the Police Department.
Parking Information

All vehicles are required to display a valid Tarleton parking permit when parked on University property.

Racquetball Court Rules
  • Protective eye wear is strongly recommended.
  • Court reservations may be made one working day in advance between the hours of 6:00 am and 5:00 pm by walk-in or by phone at 254.968.0757.
  • Absolutely no profanity.
  • No gum or food allowed.
  • All drinks must be in a plastic container with a lid.
  • Tennis shoes must be worn at all times.  No street shoes, open-toed shoes, open-back shoes, or boots allowed at any time.
  • No unruly behavior.
  • A maximum of 4 people are allowed on the court during games.
  • All serves must be off the solid white wall, NOT the glass wall.
  • Racquetball racquet replacement cost is $15.00.
  • Please throw away all of your trash before leaving.
    Failure to adhere to these rules may result in loss of center privileges.
Weight Room Policy

Rec Sports Staff are always on hand for free weight room orientations, and can also act as spotters for weight lifting.  Weight belts, jump ropes, and strength training logs are available for checkout at the control desk.  Rec Sports does not provide personal trainers, nor do we allow individuals members to act as personal trainers for their peers.  Proper attire must be worn to prevent wear and tear on the machines.

RSC Weight Room Rules

  • Use of the weight room is limited to those users over age 16. No one under the age of 16 permitted.
  • No food, drinks, tobacco products or gum allowed. Water bottles ONLY!
  • For safety reasons, personal items, bags and other items are to be stored in lockers only and not on the weight room floor.
  • Please do not touch the audio or video equipment. Ask the attendant for assistance
  • Report any equipment problems to the weight room staff.
  • Please direct all concerns and maintenance needs to the weight room staff or the recreation Center Control Desk.
  • In case of an emergency please contact the weight room staff.
  • Know that failure to adhere to the weight room and Recreation Sports Center policies may result in a loss of center privileges.
