Advertising Representative

The Department of Student Publications is seeking an Advertising Representative to maintain and increase advertising revenue for the department through its print and online mediums. The person in this position will aid the department in maintaining an advertising revenue of at least $18,000. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required for the person in this position.

Job Duties
  • Maintain existing advertising agreements with current clients for online and print publications;
  • Seek out and retain new advertising agreements for online and print publications;
  • Meet or exceed a monthly sales goal averaging about $1,000/month;
  • Maintain accurate and up to date files that include contact information, call logs, contracts, etc. on all clients;
  • Work with campus departments and help develop advertising campaigns to promote events/activities for online and print publications;
  • Develop and execute campaign to sell ads for the Grassburr yearbook;
  • Assist the Administrative Assistant with invoicing and billing;
  • Layout and design advertisements to meet the specifications of the client
  • Work with the Graduate Assistant to develop, plan and execute promotional events for JTAC News;
  • Assist the Office Manager with administrative duties such as answering phone, greeting visitors, making deposits, checking mail, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Skills

The desired candidate should have experience in marketing and/or sales, should be comfortable with sales goals/quotas, and should be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Grassburr Section Editor(s)

The Department of Student Publications and the Grassburr are seeking a Section Editor to coordinate the execution of specific elements in the yearbook. The person in this position assumes responsibility for the development and creation of certain sections and signatures of the Grassburr. Applicants should have a high level of yearbook experience. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for the person(s) in this position.

Job Duties
  • Supervising qualified section writers, photographers and other contributing staff;
  • Supporting and adhering to Editor-in-Chief’s overall theme concept;
  • Thinking creatively with story and photo assignments as well as guiding by example in production and managing;
  • Working closely with page/graphic designers to ensure vision is executed with assigned sections;
  • Adhering to strict deadlines;
  • Delegating responsibilities and ensuring tasks are completed;
  • Reading and approving all copy, content and pages for assigned section before submitted to Editor-in-Chief;
  • Providing regular feedback, constructive comments, training and motivation for section staff members;
  • Meeting regularly with Editor-in-Chief to discuss progress, needs, problems, etc.;
  • Assisting Editor-in-Chief.
Skills

The desired candidate should possess strong management skills and should be knowledgeable in journalistic standards and practices. This person should be self-motivated and maintain a certain level of initiative. The candidate should also be proficient in design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).

Staff Contributors

JTAC News and Grassburr are seeking paid contributors to assist in the development of both print and online publications within the Department of Student Publications. Contributor positions include writers, photographers, page/graphic designers, etc. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for employment.

Job Duties
  • Supporting and adhering to JTAC News guidelines, policies and direction;
  • Completing assignments by or before the submission deadline;
  • Making any edits or suggested changes within a specified time frame;
  • Working to ensure submissions are of highest possible quality.
Skills

Desired candidates are expected to be proficient in their skilled area and should require little to no training. Basic skill sets should include:

Writers Ability to produce well researched, well written pieces on various subjects, including features, organizations, news, traditions, events, sports, etc.
Photographers Ability to artistically conceptualize and execute high quality photos. Must also be able to select best photos and edit using Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop.
Page/Graphic Designers Ability to creatively develop page designs or graphical elements while maintaining adherence to yearbook theme and vision. Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud programs.
Cartoonist Ability to draw freehanded or computer-aided comics and/or editorial cartoons that are entertaining and relevant to the Tarleton culture.
Videographers

Ability to artistically conceptualize and execute high quality videos. Must also be able to work with a wide range of clients, ensuring that their vision comes to life through video. Knowledge of programs such as Adobe Premier, After Effects, etc., is very beneficial.

Video Production Assistant(s)

The Department of Student Publications is currently seeking a Video Production Manager. The person in this position will be responsible for overseeing successful fulfillment, production, graphics, editing and archiving of videos created for internal clients within the Division of Student Life at Tarleton State University. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for the person(s) in this position

Job Duties
  • Collaborating and planning with clients to conceptualize a professional, high-quality video project;
  • Storyboarding, script writing and casting;
  • Set up and operation of all equipment (video, lighting, cabling, sound, etc.);
  • Editing of raw camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects;
  • Converting videos into format necessary for the client’s use as well as archiving and posting of videos to the proper channels.
Required skills
  • Strong video editing skills with programs such as Adobe Premier, Final Cut, etc.;
  • Ability to learn and apply unfamiliar new concepts quickly;
  • Understanding of composition, typography and color as the fundamentals of good design;
  • Must be efficient and creative in visualizing the written word and expressing it in pictures and sound to achieve the client’s vision;
  • Must be a high-energy, self-motivated individual with great interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to produce and adhere to storyboards while remaining flexible and managing all components of video production;
  • Ability to instruct and direct personnel and/or actors when video taping or setting up scenes;
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative environment;
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills
