Graphic Designer

The graphic designer will be responsible for creating marketing materials for the Division of Student Affairs. The person in this position will work cross-departmentally to aid with marketing campaigns that may include design of banners, brochures, flyers, posters, logos, advertisements, social media graphics, and various other publications or graphics. Basic expectations of the graphic designer are as follows:

  • Develop and execute design projects that specifically meet the needs of the clients consisting of Student Affairs departments and organizations.
  • Assist in developing marketing campaign ideas to promote Student Affairs programs and services.
  • Assist with normal tasks associated with The Source that include, but not limited to, fulfilling orders pertaining to simple designs and professional printing.
  • Maintain shifts as needed at The Source’s front desk area.
  • Design advertisements for JTAC News as needed that meet the specifications of the advertiser.
  • Assist JTAC News as needed with design of templates, pages, graphics, photo art, etc.
  • Assist with the development of graphics and/or images for use in Student Affairs videos.
  • Take photos or assist in coordinating photo shoots for use in Student Affairs publications.
  • Organize all current projects, check progress, receive and/or provide feedback, and maintain real-time updates within the department’s online project management system.
  • Meet all deadlines as prescribed by the project manager.
  • Work with the university’s Marketing and Communication Office to ensure that all university graphic and branding standards are met and adhered to;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Techinical Requirements:

The desired candidate should possess strong project management skills, be self-motivated, require little to no supervision, be able to work in a collaborative environment and be able to maintain client relationships. The candidate should also be advanced in design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.).

General Requirements:
  • 1-2 years of experience in related position or academic coursework preferred
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Exhibit good office etiquette
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Exhibit good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate good customer service skills, both internal and external
  • Observe the confidentiality of data
Optional opportunity:

This position can be designed to serve as an Intern2Learn (based on financial need), Applied Learning Experience (ALE), or academic internship opportunity. To qualify, the following additional qualifications must be met:

  • Serve as project manager for at least two small- to medium-sized marketing projects.
  • Maintain a journal during work experience considering student learning outcomes
  • Post a reflection annually addressing the R.E.A.L. student learning outcomes on Portfolium
  • Post at least one artifact annually that reflects your out-of-classroom experience to Portfolium
  • Post a resume annually on Portfolium

Writer

Contributor positions will begin in the fall 2017 term.

The Department of Student Publications is seeking paid contributors to assist in the development of student-driven publications and projects. Videographers are paid per submission. Basic skills should include the ability to produce well researched, well written pieces on various subjects, including features, organizations, news, traditions, events, sports, etc.

General Requirements:
  • Supporting and adhering to Student Publications guidelines, policies and mission;
  • Completing assignments by or before the submission deadline;
  • Making any edits or suggested changes within a specified time frame;
  • Working to ensure submissions are of highest possible quality.

Photographer

Contributor positions will begin in the fall 2017 term.

The Department of Student Publications is seeking paid contributors to assist in the development of student-driven publications and projects. Photographers are paid per submission. Basic skills should include the ability to artistically conceptualize and execute high quality photos. Must also be able to select best photos and edit using Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop.

Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs Digital Media

The GA for Student Affairs Digital Media will be responsible for assisting with the management of divisional websites, social media, and digital signage as well as the supervision of the visual media manager and the social media intern. The person in this position will work cross-departmentally to aid with marketing and communication of programs, services, and events. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. Basic expectations of the GA for Student Affairs Marketing are as follows:

  • Meet established deadlines.
  • Maintain regular office hours.
  • Meet regularly with Student Publications and creative services staff.
  • Collect project requests – which may include graphic design, photography, videography, print publications, or digital media – from internal clients via online form, email, telephone, or in-person visit.
  • Work with clients to determine scope, audience, purpose, and options of each project.
  • Enter all digital media project requests in the Student Publication’s online project management system and work with the Student Affairs Marketing Coordinator to assign specific tasks.
  • Develop and maintain webpages for all departments within the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Oversee operation of all official Division of Student Affairs social media channels.
  • Supervise the Student Affairs Social Media Intern.
  • Supervise the Visual Media Manager (photography, videography, graphic design)
  • Develop and maintain social media guidelines for the division and its subset departments.
  • Work with the Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs Marketing and the Student Affairs Marketing Coordinator to ensure cohesiveness of print and digital marketing projects.
  • Assist in scheduling photo/video shoots for projects when necessary.
  • Assist in the development of digital media production schedules.
  • Assist in monitoring the progress of all projects to ensure timely completion.
  • Assist with assessment and evaluation of all Student Life programs to inform future initiatives.
  • Conduct research and develop ways to focus and increase the division’s reach of its main audience (current students).
  • Work with Student Affairs Assessment to develop focus groups and surveys for assessment of the above objectives
  • Research Best practices for marketing, branding and social media in higher education, specifically Student Affairs.
  • Facilitate professional development sessions for the Division of Student Affairs regarding best practices for social media.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
