Video Production Manager

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for a video production manager. The video production manager will be responsible for managing operation of the video production and graphic design unit of Student Publication. This position provides strategic oversight and direction for creative services efforts that effectively provide clients within the Division of Student Life with high-quality videos. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University General expectations of the video production manager are as follows:

  • Meets established deadlines.
  • Maintains regular office hours.
  • Assumes all responsibilities for the functioning of the Video unit.
  • Manages a limited budget that includes equipment and payroll.
  • Meets regularly with the creative services staff.
  • Determines the duties for the staff members and supervises their performance of assigned duties.
  • Establishes policy.
  • Bears final responsibility for all content produced.
  • Responsible for all recruitment efforts for new staff, both hourly and contributing.
  • Approves payroll with the business manager and/or adviser.
  • Appoints two video production assistants and two graphic designers on a semesterly basis.
  • Coordinates all planning, storyboarding, scripting, casting and editing efforts.
  • Maintains positive relationships with clients who request creative services.
  • Responsible for ensuring all content is accurate and true. This may include copy editing and fact checking.
  • Works in collaboration with the JTAC News editorial board to produce regular online video features for jtacnews.com.
  • Ensures that all project files are properly archived and easily accessible.
  • Initiates disciplinary action according to established procedures when the manager becomes dissatisfied with the performance of a staff member. Also mediates disputes when needed.
  • Completes requirements associated with an Applied Learning Experience in Leadership.
Technical Requirements:

The desired candidate should possess strong management skills, be self-motivated and require little to no supervision. The person should be proficient in Adobe programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premier, Final cut, etc. The completion of at least one (1) college-level digital media, video production, or similar course is a plus. The candidate should also possess strong and effective oral and written communication skills and be able to work well with others in a very collaborative environment.

Videographer

Student Publications is currently seeking videographers to assist in the creation of promotional videos for the Division of Student Affairs. Videographers are paid per submission. Basic skills should include the ability to artistically conceptualize and execute high quality videos. Must also be able to work with a wide range of clients, ensuring that their vision comes to life through video. Knowledge of programs such as Adobe Premier, After Effects, etc., is very beneficial.

Student Coordinator for Special Events

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for a student coordinator for special events. The student coordinator for special events will be responsible for the development of a variety of programs and services that enhance, promote and increase visibility for the department. A major component of this position is assisting with the research, planning and coordination of the Student Publication’s JTAC News and Grassburr programs including providing advisement for the promotion of both areas. The person in this position must have excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to create and present workshops and programs within the department and interact with a variety of advertising constituents. General expectation of the student coordinator for special events are as follows:

  • Plan, organize and execute programs and events that enhance the student experience while at the same time promoting the Department of Student Publications, including JTAC News and Grassburr.
  • Assist JTAC News and Grassburr organize and execute their existing programs and events ensure these events are helping to positively promote the department.
  • Work with the Digital Media Editor to enhance the Student Publications social media presence.
  • Work with JTAC News Editor to develop programs and events that increase awareness of the student newspaper and/or serve as forums for news gathering.
  • Develop, plan and execute promotional campaign to increase readership from alumni, parents and prospective students as well as to increase overall traffic on the JTAC News website.
  • Assist the Grassburr with developing event-based distribution programs that help increase awareness of the yearbook.
  • Develop and execute ideas and materials that promote Student Publication events. These may include social media graphics/posts, giveaways, fliers, face to face interactions, etc.
  • Work with Business Manager and Advertising Representative to develop programs and events that help increase advertising revenue.
  • Assist with assessment and evaluation of all Student Publications Programs to inform future initiatives.
  • Assist publication editors with recruitment efforts as organizational and information fairs, etc.
  • Assist with general office duties under the direction of the Administrative Assisting IV.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Technical Requirements:

Desired candidate should have experience in sales, marketing and/or event planning, and have a keen sense of social media campaigns. The candidate should also be proficient in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) and be proficient in creating and editing material for publication and websites, Good organization skill are important as well as the ability to interact positively with student, faculty, staff and other external clients.

Editor-in-Chief (Grassburr)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for Grassburr Editor-in-Chief. The editor-in-chief will be responsible for leading and managing all operations of the student-run yearbook. The person in this position assumes responsibility for the development and creation of the Grassburr as well as its entire content. Applicants should have at least one semester of experience on the Grassburr staff, be a junior- or senior-level student, and must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General expectations of the editor-in-chief are as follows:

  • Meets established deadlines for all yearbook products.
  • Maintains regular office hours.
  • Chairs the yearbook’s editorial board
  • As chair conducts weekly meetings with the editorial board.
  • Assumes all responsibilities for the functioning of the yearbook.
  • Manages a limited budget that includes equipment and payroll.
  • Determines the duties for the staff members and supervises their performance of assigned duties.
  • Establishes policy.
  • Bears final responsibility for all content of the yearbook.
  • Responsible for all recruitment and hiring efforts for new staff, including editors and contributors.
  • Responsible for all marketing and promotion of the Grassburr through social media, advertising, sponsorships, events, etc.

Section Editor (Grassburr)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for Grassburr Section Editors. Section editors will be responsible for the execution of specific elements in the yearbook. Section editors assume responsibility for the development and creation of certain sections and signatures of the Grassburr. Applicants should have at least a high-school level of yearbook experience, and must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General Expectations are as follows:

  • Maintains regular office hours;
  • Supervises qualified section writers, photographers and other contributing staff;
  • Supports and adheres to editor-in-chief’s overall theme concept;
  • Thinks creatively with story and photo assignments as well as guides by example in production and managing;
  • Conceptualizes and executes individual page, spread and section layouts
  • Adheres to strict deadlines;
  • Delegates responsibilities and ensures tasks are completed;
  • Reads and approves all copy, content and pages for assigned section before submitting to Editor-in-Chief;
  • Provides regular feedback, constructive comments, training and motivation for section staff members;
  • Attends weekly editorial board meetings to discuss progress, needs, problems, assignments etc.;

Editor-in-Chief (JTAC News)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for JTAC News Editor-in-Chief. The editor-in-chief will be responsible for leading and managing all operations of the student-run news organization. The person in this position assumes responsibility for the entire editorial content for both its print and online publications. Applicants should have at least one semester of experience on the JTAC News staff, be a junior- or senior-level student, and must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General expectations of the editor-in-chief are as follows:

  • Meets established deadlines for all newspaper products.
  • Maintains regular office hours.
  • Chairs the newspaper’s editorial board
  • As chair conducts weekly meetings of the newspaper editorial board of which should include news budget planning for print and online.
  • Assumes all responsibilities for the functioning of the newspaper.
  • Manages a limited budget that includes equipment and payroll.
  • Determines the duties for the staff members and supervises their performance of assigned duties.
  • Establishes policy.
  • Bears final responsibility for all content of the newspaper.
  • Responsible for all recruitment and hiring efforts for new staff, including editors and contributors.
  • Responsible for all marketing and promotion of JTAC News through social media, advertising, sponsorships, events, etc.

Managing Editor (JTAC News)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for JTAC News Managing Editor. The managing editor will be responsible for management of all contributing staff, with an emphasis on staff writers/reporters. Additionally, the managing editor will assist the Editor-in-Chief with daily operations of JTAC News. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General expectations of the managing editor are as follows:

  • Maintains regular office hours
  • Receives and edits contributed assets
  • Delivers assignments to staff contributors
  • Attends regular all-staff meetings and editorial board meetings, as scheduled by the editor-in-chief
  • Assists production manager with designing print issues
  • Publishes online stories on a regular and timely basis
  • Assists editor-in-chief in addressing staff concerns, interviewing potential new contributors, and/or addressing need for disciplinary action at editor-in-chief’s discretion

Content Editor (JTAC News)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for JTAC News Content Editor. The content editor will be responsible for all quality control efforts of JTAC News’ print and online publications. The content editor’s primary responsibility is ensuring that all content is grammatically correct and follows strict Associated Press standards and guidelines. Additionally, the content editor will manage all online and digital channels of JTAC News. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General expectations of the content editor are as follows:

  • Maintain regular office hours
  • Attends regular all-staff meetings and editorial board meetings, as scheduled by the editor-in-chief
  • Trains all JTAC News editors and contributors on Associated Press Style Guide
  • Copy edits all submitted written content
  • Manages JTAC News’ website and social media outlets
  • Develops and assigns original content for the JTAC News website
  • Uploads content and maintains the JTAC News website
  • Be available and a resource for all staff

Sports Editor (JTAC News)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for JTAC News Sports Editor. The sports editor will be responsible for management of the sports section, both in print and online. Additionally, the sports editor will assist the editorial board in production and promotion of JTAC News. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General expectations of the sports editor are as follows:

Photo Editor (JTAC News)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for JTAC News Photo Editor. The photo editor will be responsible for management of all photography staff. Additionally, the photo editor will assist the editorial board in production and promotion of JTAC News. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General expectations of the photo editor are as follows:

  • Maintains regular office hours
  • Receives and edits contributed photos
  • Delivers assignments to photographers
  • Attends regular all-staff meetings and editorial board meetings, as scheduled by the editor-in-chief
  • Assists editor-in-chief and section editors with print issues, particularly in consideration to photo coverage, photo placement, cover design, etc.
  • Publishes photos online on a regular and timely basis
  • Responsible for maintaining camera equipment inventory, which includes checking out equipment and ensuring it’s timely return
  • Assists editor-in-chief in addressing photographer concerns, interviewing potential new photographers, and/or addressing need for disciplinary action at editor-in-chief’s discretion

Advertising Representative (JTAC News)

Student Publications is currently seeking applications for JTAC News Advertising Representative. The advertising representative shall have a general charge and responsibility of insuring that JTAC News is financially self-sufficient in regards to print costs, web hosting services, email services and any other contracted services that aid in the production and distribution of JTAC News. The advertising representative is responsible for creating and maintaining advertising campaigns for the print and online versions of JTAC News as well as any additional special revenue generating projects. The person in this position will aid the department in generating a minimum of $12,000 in advertising revenue. General expectation of this position are as follows:

  • Meets established deadlines.
  • Maintains daily office hours.
  • Meets a monthly sales quota.
  • Provides full, efficient and courteous customer service to all customers.
  • Maintains contacts on bi-weekly basis with all regular customers.
  • Initiates contacts on a regular basis with all prospective customers.
  • Follows and ensures customers adhere to advertising policies of JTAC News
  • Reviews and updates advertising policies/requirements as needed in conjunction with the director of Student Publications.
  • Reviews and determines ad rates on a semesterly basis in consultation with the business manager and director of Student Publications.
  • Develops and implements programs/specials to increase advertising sales.
  • Accurately completes contracts on all advertising sales, submitting them to the business manager on a daily basis.
  • Helps to collect all advertising revenue owed to JTAC News and turns it over to the business manager for deposit.
  • Schedules, coordinates and provides customer service with all national advertising agencies and accounts for both print and online.
  • Prepares a written report, called a “run sheet” one week in advance of each print edition, listing all ads sold and the size of each ad.
  • Submits daily “call logs” to the administrative assistant or director of Student Publications that record all daily contacts with customers and potential clients.
  • Responsible for advertising development, layout and design. Must ensure that it meets the advertiser’s specifications and is approved by the customer prior to print.
  • Seeks out and maintains local advertisers for JTAC News’ Signal Campus kiosks in compliant with the regulations and policies of Signal Campus.
  • Serves as Customer Service Representative for the office by greeting people who enter the office, answering the phone, etc.
  • Responsible for selling advertising for the Grassburr as needed or requested.
  • At minimum, meets monthly with the business manager and the director of Student Publications to review sales quotas, new leads, call logs, and any issues or concerns.
  • Performs other duties as warranted by the director of Student Publications.

The desired candidate should possess strong communication skills, be highly personable, be self-motivated and require little to no supervision. The person in this position should be well organized and have at least a basic concept of marketing and sales. Writer

Contributor positions will begin in the fall 2017 term.

The Department of Student Publications is seeking paid contributors to assist in the development of student-driven publications and projects. Videographers are paid per submission. Basic skills should include the ability to produce well researched, well written pieces on various subjects, including features, organizations, news, traditions, events, sports, etc.

Photographer

Contributor positions will begin in the fall 2017 term.

The Department of Student Publications is seeking paid contributors to assist in the development of student-driven publications and projects. Photographers are paid per submission. Basic skills should include the ability to artistically conceptualize and execute high quality photos. Must also be able to select best photos and edit using Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop.
