WOULD YOU DIE

Isaac C Chavez

If I were a soft, sleek cat,
Would you quietly caress
The creative curves
Of my quivering body?

If I were a snake,
Would you slither, slide,
Slowly, yet swiftly swoon
By my side?

If I were a sparrow,
Would you spare me the sorrow
Of seeing you swerve, dive,
Surf through the air as I sit
On the soft, silent earth.
Watching.

You said, “I live for the lingering,
Longing, lusty kiss
You love my lovelorn, lowborn lips.
I stumble, fumble,
Hard up for a morsel
Of your hallowed love.”

If I were to die,
Would you dare to demonstrate
The depth of your desire
And die with me?
Would you die for me?
Would you die?
