LIBERATED SHACKLES

Michelle Bitner

Young women aspire to be more
Than that of women from before.
We want rights and respect they say
We see now everyone pays.

Respect and freedom are not free,
There also comes more misery.
Still expected just as before
To love, respect, and honor more.

Servant to home, kids, and husbands,
Today imprisoned by multiple demands.
Off to work then home again,
To slave some more, it never ends.

A man’s work is from dusk to dawn,
A women’s work is never done.
This old adage is true
But now it is multiplied by two.

Women think they have it made,
But Eve’s debt will never be paid.
The men sit back and silently cackle,
Because now we’re sporting “liberated” shackles.
