Brandon Barnes

"Was there ever a doubt in your mind?"
—Serendipity the Muse, Dogma

God has to be a woman.

The mystics found a few clues,
the moderns’ve picked up the trail:

Beautiful.
Yes.
Mysterious.
Yes.
Ultimately desirable.
Yes.                        Selah.

Poems, books, how-to-win manuals on . . .
Yes.  All those.
Gurus distilling wisdom: how to figure H/her all out . . .
Uh huh.  Don’t forget advice columns pertaining to.
Theories jettisoned after immediate experience?
You betcha. Higgaion.

Locus of hopes?
Many times.
Recipient of martyr’s devotion?
In variegated forms.
Sighs, exhalations, low mumblings of the Name.
Ah, yes.       Selah.

Weeping for the presence . . .
Apostrophic invocations . . .
Abasement preceding union . . .

Well, then.
There you have it.

Miserere.

Amen.
