No Peace

Bonnie Harding

You want to touch me. You know you do. So scared. So insecure. What’s the matter? Cat got your mind? You want to do more than touch. Don’t you? You want to ensnare your hands in the tendrils of me. You want me. You yearn for me. You ache for what I am. I weave around your every dream. I am in the dark corners of your mind. I never leave your thoughts. Oh, I watch. I see. I know your secret desires. I know what you want. I know what you need. Embrace me. Feel me. Open to the possible. Come on. I won’t hurt you. Much. Maybe a few bumps. Maybe a few illusions shattered. But how good it will feel. You stumble along. Fall down. Stay down this time! Or dare to touch me. Grab me. Feel my power. Hold me inside. Let me explode. Let me lead you to realization. Lead you to ultimate highs. The high of your place above mere mortals. Those foolish mortals. I have not chosen them. I picked you! Handpicked you among thousands. Millions. Chose you to bestow my gift upon. Come on. Please. Please reach out your hand. Please don’t be afraid anymore. Look. Just look for a second. Look at what waits for you. Only for you. Only you can do this. This is yours. Destined for you. Held for you. You know it is true. Why are you so afraid to believe? Please, look. Just look. NO! DO NOT TURN AWAY! DO NOT!
Fine. Go ahead. But . . . when you sleep, I will be the dream. When you ache, I will be the pain. When you think, yearn, desire—I will be the only balm. You will wonder. I WILL MAKE YOU! Wonder what could have been. Only I can make it go away. I will be with you. There is no escape. I am forever. I am endless. I AM.
You know you want to touch me.
