The Faculty Fellows' Philosophy

The Faculty Fellows at Tarleton State University promote lifelong learning by creating and supporting quality faculty development initiatives. As partners with the Center for Instructional Innovation, the Faculty Fellows emphasize research-based teaching practices in our respective disciplines. We engage colleagues with discussions and debate related to teaching, research, and service. The Faculty Fellows live by the following tenets:

  • All effective teachers are lifelong learners.
  • Professional development opportunities are purposeful and support professional goals designed to improve teaching practice.
  • Research opportunities provide faculty the means to be lifelong learners.
  • Service to humanity occurs from intrinsic motivation.
  • In their roles as lifelong learners, curious researchers, and intrinsically motivated leaders, students are crucial to the future and education of humanity.

To this end, the Faculty Fellows collaborate with the faculty at Tarleton State University by:

  • Providing faculty professional development opportunities to participate and become passionate about evidence-based teaching and learning.
  • Mentoring and advising faculty on their teaching, research, and service in a way that fosters a spirit of camaraderie among faculty throughout Tarleton.
  • Celebrating and praising evidence-based techniques for engaged teaching.
  • Encouraging faculty to view the utilization of creative teaching practices and improved student learning as lifelong professional goals that serve as a means to improve our respective disciplines’ work for humanity.
