Office of Faculty Research
The mission of the Office of Faculty Research (OFR) is to engage the research talents of faculty, promote high quality research and scholarship, and substantially contribute to the research output of Tarleton State University. Our fundamental goal is to pursue greater effectiveness in creating and maintaining a culture of research while promoting a sustainable research program. We are committed to serve as an institutional resource for research services and the acquisition of external funding, and to provide coordination for sponsored projects while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements and policies.
The OFR is committed to faculty research and scholarly engagement within any discipline and provides resources to support faculty research resource development. Engaging faculty in such effort increases institutional research program productivity, enhances the likelihood of faculty publication, and extends institutional resources. The OFR’s primary role includes: informing faculty about potential funding opportunities, building research capacity through training, facilitating collaborative efforts across institutions and agencies, assistance with grant development, proofing and formatting services, internal review routing, sponsored activity budget development, pre-award technical review, online proposal submission processing, and management of the sponsored project development process. Publishing scholarly works closes the loop for any research efforts. Our office encourages all faculty to seek assistance when considering external funding support and assistance with publications.
The Executive Director is assisted by a contingent of qualified staff including a Grants Specialist, a Technical Writer, and an Administrative Assistant. Our office is housed in the Faculty Commons area of the Dick Smith Library. The OFR works collaboratively with academic departments, colleges, Academic Affairs, Business Services, Risk and Safety Management, Campus Compliance and Ethics Committee, the Office of Student Research and Creative Activities, and the Office of Sponsored Projects. The Executive Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Research and Grants.
Faculty can access the expertise and skills of the OFR staff at any time. Our knowledge spans funding agency/organization culture, investment priorities, proposal evaluation criteria, proposal submission processes, sponsored project compliance requirements, institutional and external partnership review, contract assessment, budget compliance, and post-award reporting ensure competitive submissions.
The OFR can help individual faculty, faculty groups, and collaborators access external funding for research, program development, outreach or community service activities, equipment acquisition, and professional development. Our office assists through the development of conceptual frameworks, facilitating meetings, and shepherding application packages through internal review, and ensuring timely and competitive submissions.
Publication outlets for scholarly products are countless and publication styles vary by discipline. The first step towards successful publication is ensuring that your submission is error-free while meeting the authorship requirements established by the targeted publication. The OFR offers faculty assistance with the technical side of your manuscript such as checking punctuation, grammar, proofing, and ensuring that your work meets required style guidelines.
TAMU System News
The TAMU System has updated information relative to Uniform Guidance Cost Principles for federal grants and contracts that become effective on or after December 26, 2014. Each System Member has been asked to provide this information to all personnel involved with federal awards.
We encourage PI’s with active grants to review each of the documents below and to share this information with staff responsible for completing purchases using sponsored project funding. Additionally, anyone developing proposal budgets should be aware of these changes.
