Social Science Information Gateway: Social Welfare - Provides high quality Internet information for students, academics, researchers and practitioners in the social sciences, business, and law. It is part of the UK Resource Discovery Network.

Social Work and Social Services Web Sites - This site from Washington University, St. Louis is thorough in its coverage of social work issues, from abuse and violence to women's issues.

The Social Work History Station - Website from the School of Social Work at Boise State University covers the history of Social Work from its beginnings up to World WAR II; includes many photographs.

Social Work Web Links - huge list of links useful to Social Workers.

Web Sites of Interest to Social Workers - A UniGuide featured site, this webpage includes links to hundreds of site of special interest to social workers. New ones are added every day.

Statistical Resources on the WEB - For statistics on Demographics, Health, Housing, Sociology and much more, try this University of Michigan web site.

SWAN: Social Work Action Network - From the University of South Carolina, this resource covers national organizations, world organizations, US government, conferences and meetings, listserv directory, newsgroups and more. Of special note is the topics by subject page, which includes adoption, alcohol and substance abuse, death and dying, mental health, and much more.

Abuse

MedlinePlus: Child Abuse - a goldmine of information about child abuse from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine.

National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect -  promotes scholarly exchange among researchers in the child maltreatment field; acquires microdata from leading researchers and national data collection efforts and makes these datasets available to the research community for secondary analysis.

Texas Child Protective Services - investigates reports of abuse and neglect of children. It also provides services to children and families in their own homes; contracts with other agencies to provide clients with specialized services; places children in foster care; provides services to help youth in foster care make the transition to adulthood; and places children in adoptive homes.

Texas Council on Family Violence - works to end violence against women through partnerships, advocacy and direct services for women, children and men.

Texas Department of Family and Protective Services - is to protect children, the elderly, and people with disabilities from abuse, neglect, and exploitation by working with clients, families, and communities.

Administration on Aging - Excellent government web site links to a variety of resources including, Eldercare Locator, Resource Directory, National Aging Information Center, Statistics, and Internet Resources. Archives include: A Statistical Profile of Older Americans: 1996, Images of the Aging, State Long Term Care Profiles and much more.

Alzheimer List: the Internet Gateway for the Alzheimer List, a free e-mail based support group for family caregivers and professionals. The site includes the Caregiver Resources page, an extensive list of links to resources specifically targeted towards caregivers as well as a searchable archive, which includes all posts to the Alzheimer List since 1994.

National Aging Information and Referral Center - is designed to enhance the capacity of aging information and referral/assistance (I&R/A) systems to provide the information, counseling, decision supports, and advocacy needed to secure services and benefits for an ever-growing and increasingly diverse population of older persons and caregivers

National Institute on Aging - part of the National Institutes of Health.

Texas Department on Aging and Disability Services - was established in September 2004 as a result of House Bill 2292 (78th Texas Legislature), which consolidated mental retardation services and state school programs of the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation community care, nursing facility, and long-term care regulatory services of the Department of Human Services, and aging services and programs of the Department on Aging.

Population Reference Bureau: addresses important social, economic, and political issues in order to provide timely and objective information on U.S. and international population trends and their implications.

RAND Publications - RAND, a nonprofit research institution, provides information on: behavioral sciences, economics and statistics, health, education, and welfare, information sciences, international studies, management sciences, technology and applied sciences.

American Public Health Services – The APHS work to develop and promote policies and practices that improve the health well-being of families, children, and adults.

National Association of Social Workers - NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 150,000 members.
