Periodicals Department

Periodicals Department

The Periodicals Department is located at the back of the Main Level of the library and is responsible for ordering, cataloging, processing, and preserving periodicals, which includes journals, magazines, and newspapers. Formats may include print, microform and electronic.  We subscribe to over 800 print journals, and maintain access to approximately 26,000 electronic journals.

Microform reader-printers are available in the Periodicals Department. Recreational reading (aka  Hot Titles) and newspapers are located on the back wall, close to comfortable seating.

You can also find periodicals by searching the library catalog, or SFX. The catalog provides information about each subscribed title- including our holdings- and may include online access.  SFX graphic provides access to electronic journals from acquired databases as well as subscriptions.

We also offer brochures with lists of subscribed print titles by subject. These brochures are available in print at the Periodicals desk. Since all of our Periodicals are filed in two places (Bound and Current), the brochures may help you locate the periodicals you need quickly.

Most periodicals published before 1985 are in remote storage.  These journals may be requested at the Periodicals Service desk or online using the request form below. Requests should be made 24 hours in advance, and will be available for use at the Circulation Desk.

If you have any questions or concerns, please visit us at the Periodicals Service desk or contact us via phone (254) 968 -9867 or email

We invite your suggestions for purchases, ways to improve our services, questions regarding periodicals, whatever, so please do not hesitate to contact us.  And of course, our staff is available to help you identify and locate periodicals!
