R.A.D. - Rape Aggression Defense
"To develop and enhance the options of self defense, so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked."
- September 12, 14, 19, and 20th, 2016
- 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Note: This is one class broken into four (4) sessions
In 1989, Lawrence N. Nadeau founded Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Systems. He served as the organization's Executive Director until June of 1998, when he turned the organization over to four of his senior Female Staff Instructors.
Today, R.A.D. is a nationally recognized alliance of self-defense educators dedicated to enhancing defensive options for women and children, while developing their abilities to manage aggressive behavior. R.A.D. is the largest organization of its kind and it is the only such organization ever enforced by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (I.A.C.L.E.A.)
R.A.D. is taught at Tarleton State University during the fall and spring semesters. We currently have three instructors; Detective Kristie Bint and Sergeant Amanda Miller. There is no charge for this program but classes are limited in size. Therefore, students are encouraged to sign up early. These courses are open to all women at Tarleton State University and its surrounding communities.
The cornerstone of R.A.D. Systems is that this course has its foundation in Education and Awareness. The course includes lecture, discussion, and self defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities. Classes range from nine to twelve hours in length, depending on the instructor. The classes normally take place spread over multiple nights.
The Tarleton R.A.D. Program has been featured in the Stephenville Empire-Tribune newspaper and Tarleton's The J-TAC newspaper.
