Board of Regents Meeting Update
I hope you have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day holiday, and will remember and honor the sacrifice of all who have given so much in the service of our country.
I am pleased to report that during its regular meeting in College Station on Thursday, The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved the appointment of Dr. Karen Murray as Tarleton’s new provost and vice president for academic affairs, effective July 1, 2011. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Murray.
The board also approved all of Tarleton’s agenda item requests, including the acceptance of preliminary proposals to expand our degree program offerings to include both a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies as well as a Master of Science in Kinesiology. A full proposal will be submitted for consideration at a future board meeting.
The board also approved tuition and fee changes that had been discussed in a number of venues on our campus earlier this year, and approved the establishment of the Texas Center for Educational Facilities (TCEF) on Tarleton’s campus.
During remarks to the board, I was able to provide an update on the progress of Tarleton’s newest student housing complex, which is on schedule for completion by August 17, 2011.
I continue to be proud of the achievements of our faculty and staff. Your dedication ensures that, even with budget reductions, Tarleton will continue to grow and provide quality educational and service opportunities for its students. Thank you for your commitment and steadfastness in helping us achieve our goals.
