Trogdon Facts
The Trogdon House has been home to five Tarleton Presidents.
Originally called the Dean’s Home, the building was actually the second Dean’s residence on campus. The first was a wooden structure built in 1917 about where Gough Hall later went up.
Large pieces of local fieldstone were used for the 18-inch-thick walls, yielding an interior with very deep windowsills and some not-quite-perfect angles.
In between residential years the building was for a time called the Hall of Presidents, and it housed campus offices as well as the Purple Poo. (Rumor has it the Poo played basketball in the attic.)
It is registered as both a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and a State Archeological Landmark.
The distinctive newel post at the bottom of the central staircase is an original feature, as are many of the wavy glass windowpanes.
Among its many visitors, the house counts at least one squirrel (in the commode), a duck and (maybe) a ghost.
