On a Moonlit Night

Avituna, Jonathan

On this night so clear and free of fear
while Seraphim sing softly for all to hear and Pan and his kin so hauntingly blow
that the stars that know all twinkle and glow

on a cloudless night like this poet’s dream
free from the gloom of the unseen
they write of star-crossed lovers and their tryst, and of the bright sky hidden in the mist
of the romantic feelings that writhe and flair when they touch their beloved’s ebony hair
and though they’re chained to this world, infernal they are reminded that hope springs eternal

and on a midsummer’s night such as this many weary wanderers walk and wish
to hold and touch the ones that they miss but finding them not succumb to dark bliss Ah, elusive slumber’s gentle kiss

and upon waking on the forest’s floor
see their love across the moor
and run to her passionate embrace knowing that only in this magic place when the moon hangs in the ethereal space could a fervent wish bring such a sight

But even still upon this moonlit night I linger lonely lost and all alone

because your heart I cannot own
yet I know I cannot let you part
for I feel you beating in my heart
but on this one night our love feels right

for in the bright night of this mad-capped night daring dreams that are dreamt draw strange new life and well-worn wishes ring true in my sight
so is it not possible that upon this one night
that you might say that you love me
