Floyd Richmond began his teaching career in 1980 as a high school band director and has taught all areas of K-12 music, and most in higher education.  He has held long-term teaching positions in Mississippi, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas, and short-term consulting positions in Ohio, Massachusetts, and Florida.

He holds a doctorate of arts in music from Ball State University and also attended Indiana University, Mississippi College and Delta Sate University. He is the author, editor or chapter author of approximately ten books. He has operated various musical businesses profitably since 1983.  He is a composer, songwriter, arranger and performer, and has produced numerous recordings.

He served as president of TI:ME from 2016-2018 and as conference chair for ATMI/CMS in 2004 and 2019.  He studied tuba with renowned performers, Harvey Phillips, Barton Cummings, and Denis Royal.  He currently coordinates the music business program, teaches tuba and is the Area Coordinator for Music at Tarleton State University.
