So you’ve been admitted, what’s next? If your answer was applying for Housing, then you’re correct! Choosing your first year residential hall is a big decision for anyone! Here are a few questions to ask yourself before deciding which residential hall is just right for you!
Am I prepared to live with a roommate?
While you are living on campus, it is very important for you to prepare yourself to live with roommates. Tarleton offers a short survey on its housing application to compare your interests with others in order to find the perfect roommate match for you! You may also request a roommate to live with on your application as well! If you decide to do this make sure that your potential roommate has requested you on their own housing application as well. If you are a more private person then you may want to consider choosing a housing option that provides private bedrooms. A few of these options include Heritage Hall, Honors Hall, and Integrity Hall.
What residence hall is the most affordable?
At Tarleton we do our best to make on campus housing affordable to all students! If you are choosing your housing options based on affordability then you should consider choosing Hunewell/Hunewell Annex,or Centennial Hall as your new home!
What is the proximity of campus buildings and resources to my housing options?
All of Tarleton’s housing options are located within a short walking distance of all campus buildings, however if you are concerned about the traveling distance to and from classes and campus resources then you should look into choosing a residence hall that is more centrally located! A few of these options include Honors Hall, Hunewell/Hunewell Annex, and Heritage Hall!
If I like to cook, what is the best option for me?
If cooking is your thing, then you might want to consider a residential hall that has multiple kitchens where you can hone your skills. Heritage or Integrity Hall may be an option that you want to consider, with their chef-inspired community kitchens on each wing with stainless steel appliances and granite counters that make it perfect to cook with ease! Honors Hall is another great option to pick for those who love to cook. Honors has multiple community kitchens throughout the Hall which makes cooking very easy and accessible to all who enjoy it.
Are there any housing options that might be unavailable to me?
There are a few restrictions applied to the housing options provided at Tarleton. A few limitations to consider are 2nd year and above only housing (this includes Texan Hall, Ferguson Hall, and Texan Village Apartments), Athletic and ROTC housing for Traditions Hall (North and South), and the mandatory participation in the Honors program for all Honors Hall residents.
How soon should I apply for housing?
It is highly suggested for you to have your housing application completed by January 14th in order to ensure your spot on campus. However, for those that do not complete this application as quickly, be prepared to choose a residence hall that is still available to you.
How will I ever make the decision on my residence hall?
It can be difficult choosing your housing without viewing them in person first. If you are conflicted about what housing is right for you, then you should join us for Hall Crawl on December 21st. At Hall Crawl you will be able to take a guided tour of all of the available residential halls to you in order to help you visualize what your life will be like living on campus.
