Dear Freshman Me,
Stop worrying so much. These next few years are going to be filled with some of the best experiences of your life. Sometimes you will struggle as all change is hard, but it will all be worth it. Remember to stay grounded. As you get caught up in the rush of fun, classes, and new friends, don’t forget where you came from. Don’t forget to call your mom, keep strong in your faith, and do things that you love. Remember to take time for yourself. Get to know yourself through this journey. Find hobbies you love, try something new, and love yourself.
I encourage you to take chances. Even if you don’t feel qualified, apply for the job. Do things that scare you, they may turn out to be one of the best experiences of your life. Work hard and always put your best foot forward. I want you to remember it’s okay to ask for help. Whether it’s from family and friends or a professional, it’s okay to lean on others when you need it. You’re not expected to have it all together, and it’s okay not to have all the answers. People want to help you succeed, so don’t be afraid to reach out.
There will be moments when you feel overwhelmed—when you wonder if you can handle everything. Just take a breath, and remember that you’re stronger than you think. Embrace the challenges; they are the moments that will help shape who you are becoming. Know that growth isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it.
And lastly, be kind to yourself. You won’t always get everything right, and that’s perfectly fine. Allow yourself to make mistakes, learn from them, and keep moving forward. Your worth isn’t defined by your successes or failures, but by who you are deep down. Keep your head up, keep learning, and keep loving life. You’ve got this.
As you begin your journey in college remember to give yourself grace. College is a time of change and new environments. It is ok to mess up, but always make sure you get back up and try again.
Love,
Future You
