Formed in the spring of 1974, the Texan Stars have become an essential part of Tarleton State’s culture. From energizing school spirit to winning national championships, they consistently represent Tarleton with pride and excellence. Wherever they go, the Texan Stars bring excitement and embody the heart of Tarleton spirit.
Being a part of the Texan Stars is about more than just dancing—it’s about balancing academics, maintaining a social life, and being an athlete, all while representing Tarleton at the highest level. Head Coach Ancheska Parchman is dedicated to helping the team grow as both dancers and individuals. She raises the standard not only on the field but also in the classroom, increasing the GPA requirement and instilling the core values of Excellence and Respect. Parchman encourages the team to embody kindness and respect in every aspect of their lives.
The Texan Stars are not just a dance team—they are a family. According to member Audrey Price, the girls constantly support and motivate each other, both on and off the dance floor. This sense of camaraderie drives their success. Not only do they perform at football games, but they also shine in competitions. Last year at Nationals, they earned second place in every category, a testament to their daily hard work and commitment. As Coach Parchman explains, what truly sets the Texan Stars apart from other D1 dance teams is their relentless drive to improve and their openness to coaching, qualities rare in the D1 world.
It has been so much fun being this involved. I never thought I would dance in college so I have been so thankful for this experience.
The team is also deeply engaged in the community, regularly hosting dance clinics open to all. In fact, team member Aza Rainey joined the Texan Stars after attending one of these clinics, where she felt immediately welcomed and at home.
This year marks the Texan Stars’ 50th anniversary—a half-century of impact on Tarleton State. To celebrate, the team is hosting a Recruit Workshop on November 9th, offering aspiring dancers the opportunity to showcase their skills and learn more about what it means to be a Texan Star.
