When most people think of college, they think of all the amazing academic opportunities and fun campus events. However, one thing people may not consider is all of the things to do around a college town. Stephenville is a quaint town with lots of things to experience and explore.
Pickleball is a sport that has taken the world by storm. From teenagers, to the elderly, to even Taylor Swift, everyone seems to be trying their hand at this sport. Stephenville City Park houses four tennis courts that double as pickleball courts. This is a great way to get some exercise, take a break from studying, and connect with your fellow classmates. Stephenville City Park not only offers pickleball/tennis courts but they also have a disc golf course, baseball/softball fields, and a variety of trails to explore.
Cold Smoke coffee shop, located directly across from campus, is a great place not only to study but also to meet up with your friends. With an assortment of beverages, baked goods, and food to choose from everyone can find something they like. While you are there you can also walk next door to Barefoot Campus Outfitters to get all your Tarleton State merch!
Are you an avid golfer or wanting to pick up a new sport? Check out Tejas Golf Course! Just 2 miles from campus, you can head out with a group of friends or by yourself. This beautiful course is one of the hidden gems of Stephenville. Going golfing is great way to build connections, get active (or moving), and take a break from studying. Plus if you are lucky you may catch their adorable dog roaming around the pro shop!
Stephenville also offers some great places to eat. Established in 2016, The Purple Goat is a Tarleton State Staple. Make sure you stop by to grab an ice cold drink, one of their amazing burgers, and take a picture with the Purple Goat outside! Another Stephenville staple is Hard 8 Barbeque. Hard 8 offers real Texas barbeque, sides, and desserts. You can also catch live music there on Friday and Saturday nights!
Just 30 minutes from Stephenville, Glen Rose Texas holds many activities including one of my favorite places, Dinosaur Valley State Park. At Dinosaur Valley State Park you can chose from a variety of hiking/biking trails, see dinosaur tracks, or go swimming in the river. Glen Rose also houses Fossil Rim Wildlife Center! This is a non-profit conservation center for endangered species. You can hike, eat, shop, or chose from the various tours and get to interact with the animals! Make sure to check out our blog post about Fossil Rim if you want to know more!
Stephenville, with its vibrant downtown, serene countryside, and array of activities, promises an exciting college experience. From exploring local culture to embracing outdoor adventures, there’s something here for everyone. Get ready to make unforgettable memories as you embark on your journey as a Tarleton State Texan!
