What To Do After You Move In

What to do after move in 1 1

The day I moved in as a freshman in college, my parents helped pack up my stuff and bring it all to school. The Texan Movers brought all of my stuff to my room. My parents helped decorate and we went to lunch together. We went back to my newly decorated dorm that I had been excited for weeks to move into. But then they left and I sat down on my bed and had no idea what to do. So here are some things you can do after you move in!

1. Finish Decorating Your Room

Your dorm is going to be your space for the next year! You’re going to want this space to feel like home so make it comfortable, cute, or however you see best fit!

2. Take a walk around campus

Getting familiar with campus makes getting around so much easier! Look for these popular spots on campus:

  • The Student Center: take a walk around all three floors to discover study spots, food choices(like Chick-fil-a!), the book store, pool and ping pong tables, and more.
  • The Library: most students only know to utilize the main and top floors of the library BUT my favorite spot is downstairs because of the fun furniture! Most students go upstairs to study because it is a quiet space. There are also study rooms upstairs. The main floor has computers and food.
  • The Rec: if you have any interest in lifting, rock climbing, swimming, basketball, volleyball, or other physical activities – check out the rec!
  • Your Residential Hall: take a walk around your hall to find out where the laundry rooms, community rooms, or kitchens are. Walking around your hall is also a great way to make friends!

3. Drive around Stephenville

Take a drive around Stephenville to get familiar with the area. Figure out if there’s a grocery store you prefer and where it is. Stephenville has Walmart, HEB, and Aldi. Discover restaurants and where you’d be interested in trying.

4. Get to know your roommate(s)

Get to know your roommate(s)! This is the person you’re going to spend the year with so they’re definitely worth getting to know! This stranger could potentially become your best friend – all it takes is getting to know them!

5. Enjoy T-Week!

Have fun at Transition Week! T Week is the perfect time to make friends and have fun enjoying Tarleton traditions! This time is also used to help prepare you for your next semester!
