The Faculty Ombuds provides members of the faculty with voluntary, informal, neutral, and confidential third-party assistance in resolving university-related issues, concerns, or conflicts. The Ombuds assists faculty members with interpersonal conflicts or disputes, including those with concerns about academic or administrative issues. The Ombuds must maintain confidentiality and use sound judgement in sharing information, consistent with the standards of practices & code of ethics of the international Ombudsman Association. In addition, the Ombuds provides outreach to the University through consultation and workshops. It is expected that the Ombuds would maintain membership in the International Ombuds Association while active in the position. (International Ombuds Association)

The faculty Ombuds maintains program records as appropriate and makes an annual report to the provost of aggregated number of visitors/users of the Faculty Ombuds Program, as well as a summary of presented issues (always maintaining confidentiality).

The Faculty Ombuds Program operates independently as a supplement to existing administrative or formal grievance procedures and has no formal decision-making authority.
