ACUE at Tarleton

Tarleton State University faculty are provided the opportunity to participate in courses offered by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) that promote evidence-based teaching practices proven to enhance student success. Courses are locally facilitated by a selection of esteemed Tarleton faculty who have successfully completed the courses.

Supported by the Texas A&M University System’s Scaling Instructional Excellence for Student Success initiative, this program provides Tarleton State faculty with opportunities to participate in professional development courses through a partnership with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE). Led by Dr. James Hallmark, TAMUS Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Shonda Gibson, TAMUS Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, this initiative aims to impact student success across the System via teaching excellence.

Delivery Format

ACUE courses are primarily delivered asynchronously online through the ACUE Canvas learning management system. Most require approximately 2-3 hours/week to complete learning activities and online discussions.

Course Length

ACUE offers 7- to 8-week micro-courses as well as 25-week options that compress four of the micro-courses together. Faculty who complete the 25-week Effective Teaching or Effective Online Teaching Practices course (or the micro-courses that comprise them) receive an ACUE certification, endorsed by the American Council on Education. Additional micro-courses of varying lengths may be offered in addition to the certification pathway.

Upon Completion

Faculty who complete the ACUE certification receive a small honorarium from Academic Affairs, pending availability of funds.

Additional Program Benefits

ACUE Commons logo, Association of College and University Educators.

The ACUE Commons is a community for faculty who are passionate about transforming student learning. Stay ahead of pedagogical best practices that engage students, build persistence, and develop critical thinking skills. As you learn, student outcomes improve, your institution strengthens, and you join thousands of peers who are elevating teaching across higher education. By joining the ACUE Commons, all faculty can access the Quick Study Library, connect with their institutional community group, showcase their personalized profile, and earn recognition and rewards.

In addition, ACUE has announced a new recognition opportunity for faculty called Endorsements. Endorsements signify an ACUE Commons member’s ongoing commitment to engagement, learning, and expertise in education. Endorsements are based on a point system with values assigned to each type of resource in the Commons. Once a member passes the threshold for earning, they will earn their Endorsement.

All faculty at Tarleton are eligible to join the ACUE Commons.
