Service-Learning Day will be March, 27, 2025
Service-Learning Day provides an excellent opportunity to participate in the high impact practice of extending student learning beyond the classroom and into the community. For this day, faculty and staff are encouraged to engage students in community-based learning experiences that relate to the course or broader discipline in any of the following ways:
- developing their own opportunities for their classes
- guiding students to join opportunities hosted by departments and colleges
- accepting other service-learning experiences connected to academic learning outcomes
Faculty opting not to participate may move any face-to-face courses to asynchronous online delivery for the day, which will accommodate any service-learning requirement students have in other courses.
The priority deadline for submitting opportunities for Service-Learning Day in GivePulse is Friday, March 7, 2025.
Note that while community engagement is encouraged throughout the year and opportunities can be submitted at any time, the priority deadline for SLD specifically is set to ensure adequate time is available to support project administrators, promote opportunities, recruit and manage volunteers, and develop the SLD program and agenda for the day.
Note from Academic Affairs: In support of Tarleton’s mission, students are encouraged to participate in a service-learning experience as part of the spring term. Faculty have the option to dismiss in-person classes or transition to online delivery to accommodate students participating in Service-Learning projects. This experience will challenge students to be engaged in the local community, address a community need, connect course objectives to the world around you, and involve structured student reflection. In this service-learning experience, you will not only enhance your knowledge and skills, but actively use those skills as you serve your community.
