Stephenville, Texas – The Tarleton Stock Horse Team made the trip to help put on the Return to the Remuda Sale at the 6666 Ranch.
The 6666 Ranch is one of the largest ranches, located in Guthrie, Texas. This ranch is 266,000 acres, which was featured on the famous trending TV show called Yellowstone, and newly owned by Taylor Sheridan. The TSU Stock Horse Team had the opportunity to be a part of the new sales record being set of 165 horses sold to the public at the 2022 Return to the Remuda Sale held on October 1.
Madeline Holder, agricultural communications major, is wrapping up her senior year at Tarleton, as well as her last season on the stock horse team. She was honored to be able to travel alongside her teammates to Guthrie, Texas to help put on this sale. She took part in helping the sale move smoothly. She ran tickets, helped auctioneers and watchmen, worked with the office staff in finalizing sales, as well as helped move sale lots in and out of the ring.
“This was the first time the Stock Horse Team has been asked to help with the Return to the Remuda sale, and it was a once in a lifetime experience. The Return to the Remuda sale is a legendary event in the ag industry and having the opportunity to work closely with the Sixes staff provided countless career opportunities. The Sixes staff put a lot of trust in the Stock Horse Team members, and being able to represent our team, university, and ourselves was so humbling and something I will not forget.”
Aubrey O’Neil, agricultural communications major and President of the Tarleton Stock Horse Team also had the opportunity to travel to the sale. She had the same rolls as Holder, although this was not O’Neil’s first time to the Return to the Remuda Sale.
“I have been a part of the Return to the Remuda sale for many years before the stock horse team had the opportunity to help and it has always been a fun time, however, being able to represent the college made the experience that much better. My favorite part was being able to be a part of possibly the biggest and most famous horse sale with the best team to represent the best university.”
The Tarleton Stock Horse Team is an organization for horse-oriented students to enhance their horsemanship, horse training and skills, and showmanship abilities with their own horses. The Stock Horse Team makes both stellar students and horses in Stephenville since 2006. The 2022-2023 team consists of six competitive showers and 15 other members dedicated to becoming the best horsemen and horsewomen they can be. The Texans never miss an opportunity to grow both in the arena and classroom being by coached Roberta Walton.
