Tarleton State, AQHA Visit Mexico City

Animal Science Assistant Professor, Dr. Rafael Martinez recently visited Mexico City with a distinguished group from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). Dr. Martinez was joined with esteemed professionals such as Janet VanBebber, AQHA Chief Racing Officer; Rick Young, AQHA Racing Committee Representative; Butch Wise, Former AQHA President; Dr. Jim Heird, Former AQHA President and Executive Professor at Texas A&M University; and Dr. Benjamin Moeller, Head Analytical Chemist of the Equine Chemistry Section at UC Davis.

During their time in Mexico City, they had the privilege of collaborating with the affiliate association Asociación Mexicana Cuarto de Milla (AMCM or the Mexican Quarter Horse Association), where they delivered a series of insightful lectures covering various aspects of equine care and management. Topics discussed included Race Training for Young Horses, Conformation, Fundamentals of Equine Nutrition, Current Advancements in Equine Reproduction, Drug Testing Procedures and Prohibited Substances.

Dr. Martinez stated, “our interactions with the AMCM affiliate association were incredibly rewarding, and we were thrilled to share our knowledge and expertise with fellow enthusiasts and professionals in Mexico City while representing both Tarleton State University and the American Quarter Horse Association”.
