‘Unbridled China’ Riding Club Visits Stephenville Area

Dr. Jessica Leatherwood, an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science, recently hosted a group of students from Beijing, China. Students, along with their sponsor An Tao, the owner of Unbridled China a western performance riding club, had an opportunity to learn more about the Texas horse industry, Participants also gained knowledge and training in preparation for their return to the U.S. to compete as a team in the American Quarter Horse Association’s (AQHA) Youth World Cup as well as the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) Youth World Games later this year. Dr. Leatherwood would like to recognize those industry members that donated their time and resources to make this experience possible. These include:

Dry River Ranch (Stephen Stevens and Terry Cross)

Roslyn Proffer Show Horses

Mark Anderson Professional Horse Trainer

Brazos Valley Stallion Station

Students also had an opportunity to receive training by fellow Tarleton State University faculty, including Dr. Kimberly Wellmann, Mrs. Bobbie Walton and Dr. Trinette Jones. In addition to visiting the Brazos Valley Stallion Station, students had the opportunity to participate in a tour of the university rodeo facility led by Assistant Coach Mrs. Brittany Stewart, and traveled to the APHA and the National Cutting Horse Association’s headquarters. The trip concluded by attending the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
