Emmanuel Johnson and Emma Louise Smith recently traveled to Irving, TX to present their research at the Aquaponics Association Conference. The title of Emmanuel’s talk was “Increasing plant production while decreasing the amount of nutrients leaving with fish solid waste by using Mexican scuds (Hyalella azteca) in aquaponic systems.” The title of Emma Louis’s talk was “Evaluating Black Soldier Fly Larvae as a Feed Alternative for Mozambique Tilapia in Aquaponics.” In addition to two days of 4 concurrent sessions at the conference, the graduate students were able to tour the aquaponics facilities at Dallas AgriLife and Timberview Farmstead and a hydroponics lettuce factory (Eden Green) in Cleburne.
