Tarleton’s proposed Executive PhD blends the best of both worlds:

💡 Think: academic excellence without giving up your day job.Why We Believe in Residency Requirements

Q: Can an Executive PhD prepare me for college-level teaching?

A: Yes. Our program is designed with academic rigor and includes mentorship and research experience suitable for teaching roles.

Q: Is the ePhD easier than a traditional PhD?

A: No—it’s just designed differently. The ePhD maintains the academic integrity of a PhD, but structures learning to accommodate high-level professionals.

Q: How does a residency model work in this program?
A: Students will participate in scheduled, in-person residencies 2–3 times per year. These include workshops, research presentations, and intensive learning experiences.

The Doctoral Program Proposal: Vision, Mission, and Details

Residency is where transformation happens. Our hybrid doctoral model is built on intentional, in-person experiences that foster deep learning, meaningful connection, and personal growth.

Residencies are not just logistical checkpoints—they’re catalysts for transformation.

While our program is primarily hybrid, the structured residency model is a foundational part of the experience. Residencies take place 2–3 times per semester and offer:

  • 🔍 Intensive learning: Deep dives into research methods, dissertation design, and thought leadership
  • 🤝 Mentorship: Dedicated time with faculty mentors, dissertation chairs, and research peers
  • 🌐 Connection: Build lasting relationships with fellow doctoral candidates from various industries
  • 🧭 Professional development: Guest speakers, leadership seminars, and executive roundtables

“You can only go so far behind a screen. Our residency weekends are where minds meet, problems are solved, and momentum is built.”

Q: Do I have to move to campus?
A: No. Our model is hybrid. You’ll travel to campus only for scheduled residencies—typically 2–3 times per semester.

Q: How long is each residency?
A: Usually 2–3 days over a weekend to minimize impact on your professional schedule.

Q: What happens if I miss a residency?
A: Each residency is a required part of the curriculum. However, we understand emergencies and have contingency plans when necessary.
