On Campus Employment Opportunities
On campus employment for COSM students provide a variety opportunities for students to begin building their professional resumes and working on their studies during the academic year, as well as during the summer. Examples of some of the opportunities include:
- a tutor in one of the achievement centers
- a teaching assistant for one of the many teaching labs in biology, chemistry, geology, environmental science, and others
- a grader assisting our outstanding faculty members
- a research assistant in a faculty research lab
- a storeroom assistant in either the chemistry or biology storeroom
- an office assistant in College or one of the department offices
Off Campus Employment Opportunities
In the discipline employment opportunities for COSM students are typically pursued as summer jobs and internships. Often times, the opportunities can exist back at the students home area or in a variety of locations across the state or nation. Internships in most STEM disciplines are paid experiences where students work alongside the professionals within the company in a variety of projects. These experiences strengthen the student’s resumes while providing real-world experiences to apply the classroom knowledge learned in our COSM classrooms and laboratories. In many instances, the internships lead to job offers for the students after graduate with the internship host company.
Handshake – the student employment portal
The Handshake employment system offers many features such as personalized job recommendations and a user-friendly interface. This is the main tool for employers to recruit Tarleton students for employment in their company. Additionally, it is used as the main portal for on campus offices, faculty, etc to post available positions for on campus employment opportunities.
