Dr. Christopher Copeland is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Director of the Institute for Homeland Security and Cybercrime at Tarleton State University. With a D.Sc. in Cybersecurity from Dakota State University, he brings over 19 years of real-world experience from roles with American Airlines, EDS, and Vertis Communications, complemented by a rigorous academic career. Dr. Copeland’s research spans critical infrastructure, cybercrime, homeland security, and law enforcement technology, with collaborations involving the Department of Justice (DoJ) and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) specifically in the realm of dark web research. Dr. Copeland has developed automated web scraping tools for investigations focused on Darkweb firearms and drug markets. Named a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. State Department in 2022, he lends his expertise to international cybersecurity projects. His scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and technical reports, along with over 20 presentations at leading academic and professional conferences and more than $1.1 million in funded research. Dr. Copeland’s professional credentials, including the CISSP, underscore his commitment to advancing both academic knowledge and practical applications in cybersecurity, public safety, and critical infrastructure protection.
