158 EC-12 PE and #231 7-12 ELAR exams will be available until September 31 2024 and can be used for certification purposes through September 1, 2025. The new administrations of #258 EC-12 PE and #331 7-12 ELAR will be available on September 2, 2024 and will have extended score posting dates to accommodate the added constructed response section. You are encouraged to take and pass the current exam before 9/1/24 if you know for certain you will will be a program finisher by no later than the Spring 2025 semester.
Elementary Education students with concentrations in EC-6 and 4-8 Core Subjects, 4-8 English, Language Arts and Reading, or 4-8 English Language Arts and Reading/Social Studies will be required to take and pass the new Science of Teaching Reading (Exam #293) if being recommended for teacher certification after 12/31/2020. Additional information is included in this notice provided by TEA. It will be necessary for all program completers to apply for certification early enough to meet the recommendation deadline. The last possible date to be awarded a standard certificate using the #291 exam in conjunction with the #293 STR exam is 12/30/22.

Test Day Reminders
- Watch a video of what to expect when testing with Pearson VUE.
- Check your exam confirmation email concerning what time you need to arrive for your appointment.
- Take two forms of a picture ID (Driver’s license, Passport, Tarleton ID, etc.). All documents must be original (no photo copies), and cannot be expired. Check your testing center location for specific ID requirements at time of exam registration.
- Signature verification is required, and you may be asked for a palm scan.
- Do not take your cell phone or any other form of electronics including wrist watches in the test center. You will not be permitted to enter the test site with any restricted items. Be sure to review the list of prohibited items when you register for your exams.
- Do not take study materials in the test center. You will not be permitted to enter the test site with it.
- Do not take any food or beverages in to the test center.
- It is the responsibility of the tester to know the rules of the test center before the day of the exam.
Test Taking Tips

- Review your program’s test policies.
- Know what you need to bring to the exam including valid and proper identification.
- If you are traveling to a test center, familiarize yourself ahead of time with the best route to get there and where to park. Give yourself ample time to arrive before your scheduled appointment.
- Study guides and other preparation materials are not allowed in the test center. Please do not bring these with you.
- Get a good night’s sleep before the day of your exam and be sure to eat a meal beforehand!
- Be focused and have a confident, positive attitude. Believe in yourself!
- Read instructions and candidate rules thoroughly.
- During the exam, take your time and read the questions carefully.
