504/ADA Coordinator
The 504/ADA Coordinator at Tarleton State University ensures compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). By fulfilling these responsibilities, the 504/ADA Coordinator plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive environment for all university community members. Areas of focus include:
Policy Development and Implementation
- Develop, review, and update university policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local disability laws.
- Ensure policies are communicated effectively across the campus community.
Student and Employee Support
- Provide guidance and support to students and employees with disabilities.
- Coordinate and facilitate reasonable accommodations and auxiliary aids and services.
- Assist in the resolution of complaints related to disability discrimination and accessibility.
Accessibility Oversight/Collaboration and Advocacy
- Ensure physical and digital campus environments are accessible, including buildings, classrooms, websites, and online resources.
- Work with campus departments to address and rectify accessibility barriers.
- Collaborate with various university departments to ensure the integration of accessibility and accommodation considerations into campus planning and operations.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of individuals with disabilities within the university community.
Training and Education
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for faculty, staff, and students to raise awareness and understanding of disability rights and responsibilities.
- Promote an accessible campus environment.
Compliance Monitoring/Reporting and Record-Keeping
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Section 504, ADA, and other relevant disability laws.
- Conduct regular assessments of campus accessibility and accommodation practices.
