- Submit a statement of purpose of 600 words or less
Transcript Evaluation
A transcript evaluation must be completed by a member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which includes all previous academic course work, as well as a complete description of courses and overall GPA (course-by-course evaluation).

Transcript evaluation reimbursement opportunity:
- Register for and attend classes at Tarleton State University through the 12th class day.
- Submit a copy of your evaluation receipt to gradstudies@tarleton.edu no later than the 12th day of class. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Tarleton will issue a reimbursement, of up to $250 per student.
- The reimbursement will be processed after the 12th class day.
- If there is a balance on the student account, the amount will be issued as a credit to the account.
- If the student account is paid in full, the student will be issued a refund.
- Credit may be subject to income tax.
English Proficiency Test Score Requirements
International applicants are required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores as a part of the application process. Tarleton also accepts PTE, iTEP, and Duolingo English proficiency scores. Scores can be no more than two years old.
- TOEFL: minimum score 80
- IELTS: minimum score 6
- PTE: minimum score 53
- TOEFL ITP Plus for China: minimum score 543
- iTEP: score between 3.5-3.9
- TOEFL Essentials: minimum score 8
- Duolingo: minimum score 110
You may also be required to submit graduate-level exam (GRE, MAT, or GMAT) scores. See program-specific requirements for details.

Or one of the following:
- 6 hours of college-level English, which must include 3 hours of English composition, taken at a U.S., Canadian (non-Quebec), British, or Australian institution with minimum grades of C or better; the other 3 hours can be a sophomore-level English course that is academic in nature
- Students who have completed all secondary education entirely in English may submit a letter from the school administration verifying the language of instruction is/was English. This request for a waiver of the language requirement will be reviewed by Admissions.
Financial Documentation
Required of students studying on-campus, in the U.S. only: To obtain a Form I-20 for your studies at Tarleton, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient funding to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, insurance, living expenses, and personal expenses for one full academic year.
You will be required to provide financial documents to prove that you can fund your studies. Students must show funds equal to or greater than $34,714. These totals include the cost of tuition and fees per the tuition estimator, as well as the following:

If you will reside with a U.S. sponsor near one of our campus locations, please submit our U.S. Provider’s Living Expenses Affidavit. If approved, this affidavit will substitute for showing evidence of the funding required for living expenses (i.e., room and board).
If you are planning to sponsor your spouse and/or children, you must demonstrate that you have the additional funds to support their living expenses:

If you have a sponsor, please also submit an Affidavit of Financial Support.
All financial documents should be submitted to internationalstudents@tarleton.edu.
To obtain a visa, you must have documented evidence of financial solvency. Once you are admitted and financial documentation is approved, you will be emailed an I-20 to apply for a student visa at your nearest U.S. Embassy. The I-20 will be emailed to the email address that you provide on your admission application. Please contact internationalstudents@tarleton.edu if you have questions.
Housing
If you choose to stay in one of our Residence Halls, fill out the Housing Application and include a $100 check as a refundable deposit.
Medical Information
Please provide the following medical information:
- Applicants under the age of 22 are require to submit proof of a Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine to their Med+Proctor account in myGateway.
- Fees for medical insurance will be charged with tuition at the time of registration after full admission. For more information, please visit our insurance webpage.
All F-1 and J-1 international students must have valid medical insurance on file with International Programs. Learn more about health insurance.
Authentication of Materials
The Office of Graduate Admissions performs authentication of student admissions materials and required identification. Immigration documentation is reviewed by the Office of International Programs. A primary Restricted Party Screening (RPS) is performed by the Office of International Programs for all foreign nationals seeking enrollment to the university with a secondary screening by University Compliance (UC), as needed. UC will seek guidance from the empowered official (EO) and/or System Research and Security Office (RSO) as needed for resolution of concerns and for decision-making regarding admission approval. Foreign persons will not be enrolled in the university until they have been cleared through the export control screening process.
Tuition Waivers
