Areté is a newsletter published by the Honors College at Tarleton State University. In ancient Greek culture, “arete” (ἀρετή) refers to excellence or virtue, particularly in the context of fulfilling one’s potential and living up to one’s highest potential. It encompasses a broad range of qualities, including bravery, honor, intelligence, and moral integrity. The concept of arete was central to Greek thought, particularly in the works of philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle, who believed that individuals could cultivate arete through education, practice, and discipline.
The opinions expressed within are those of the individual writers and not necessarily those of Areté or Tarleton State University.
