Reimbursement of Insurance Premium Deductions Prior to State Contribution Date
The State of Texas contributes to eligible employees’ insurance coverages as of the 1st day of the month following 60 days of employment in an eligible position. For those who elect coverage PRIOR to the first of the month after 60 days of employment, Tarleton State University will reimburse employees the State contribution towards health coverage during those first 60 days.
Summer Insurance for Faculty
Covered full-time faculty remain eligible for insurance coverage during the summer, non-working months, if returning to their full time position the following Fall. Detailed information is provided in April of each year.
Newly hired full time employees not eligible for the State contribution on September 1st, who are appointed to a 9-11 month (including 9+3) position, will have summer premiums for June, July and August withheld from your paycheck received in early June (May’s pay).
Full Time employees who are eligible for the State contribution on September 1st and are appointed to a 9-11 month (including 9+3) position will have 12 months of premiums prorated over 9 months. Twelve (12) months of premiums will be deducted and paid September-May (October-June paychecks).
Retirement Contributions
Employee contribution tax sheltered include:
- Teacher Retirement System – 8% by employee; 8% by State of Texas
- Optional Retirement Program – 6.65% by employee; 6.6% by State of Texas
- Social Security Participation
Doctoral Educational Assistance
Full-time budgeted employees at all A&M System Universities, Agencies, and System Offices are qualified for reimbursement of tuition and mandatory fees. The initiative begins with Spring 2022 semester for eligible employees pursing approved doctoral programs at A&M System Universities.

Pay Day
FLSA Exempt Positions
The first workday of each month for FLSA Exempt positions
FLSA Non-Exempt Positions
Every other Friday for FLSA Non-Exempt positions
Longevity Pay
$20 per month for every two years of service, up to forty-two years of service, with a maximum monthly payment of $420, and qualification criteria must be met.
Hazardous Duty Pay
$10 per month per year of service, up to a maximum monthly payment of $300, and qualification criteria must be met.
Basic coverage paid by State contribution for Employee only
$7500 term life insurance/$5000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D)
