Academic Resources

University College:

Being brand new to the American academic system might be challenging at first. We encourage you to visit University College as they are dedicated to supporting and guiding you toward achieving your academic goals and reaching your professional aspirations through personalized guidance, intentional programs, meaningful services and integrated educational opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. Academic Advising:

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Undergraduate students should work with the Office of Academic Advising to plan their degree. The office is comprise of 16 professional academic advisors who partner with faculty and staff across campus to help you succeed. They should be your first stop for:

  • General questions about your degree
  • General curriculum
  • Academic progress
  • Adding and dropping courses
  • Changing majors
  • Changing or adding minors
  • Graduation planning

The mission of the Office of Academic Advising is to encourage all students to become engaged in their personal development toward achievement of their academic and life goals. GRADUATE STUDENTS

Graduate students should work with their designated academic advisor throughout the completion of their degree. Graduate programs are more rigidly structured and your advisor will provide you with a degree plan to follow.

University Libraries:

The university libraries are one of the most important and integral resources for your academic development and support throughout the completion of your program. Tarleton Libraries provide relevant and effective user-centered service collections, technologies, facilities, and personnel that facilitate the University’s mission of creating “an academically challenging education where learning is grounded in real-world experiences and effective teaching, research, scholarship, and service”. Writing Center:

Academic writing in the United States is often a challenge for international students. We encourage you to take advantage of the Writing Center as you develop your academic writing skills. The Writing Center is a free support service for students who need assistance in any stage of the writing process. Consultants work with students from all classes, disciplines, and degree plans to enhance writing skills. Students may drop in at their own convenience or email their work to the Writing Center. Math Clinic:

The Math Clinic is a free tutoring service provided by the Mathematics department. It is located in Room 203 in the Mathematics Building. The tutors are graduate teaching assistants or undergraduate students that have a strong mathematics background. Students are welcome to use the clinic as a place to complete homework assignments, and have a tutor there in case any questions arise. For more information, please visit the Math Clinic website.

Tutoring and Learning Center:

The primary mission of the Tutoring and Learning Center is to assist students in developing effective techniques for facilitating their own learning. The TLC is committed to fulfilling its mission by helping students attain their highest level of academic achievement possible by creating a supportive and challenging environment that will provide equal opportunity to all students for academic success. Registration & Financial Services

Student Business Services:

The mission of Business Services is to provide the university with business functions including collection of fees and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations of the State of Texas, Texas A&M System, and Tarleton State University. The office can help you with the following items:

Registrar:

The Office of the Registrar is responsible for keeping all academic records, setting deadlines for registration, establishing policies for dropping courses, confirming your enrollment with the university, providing academic transcripts, among others. We strongly encourage you to review their website and become familiar with their deadlines and procedures to avoid any potential issues throughout the completion of your program. Scholarships:

Tarleton offers millions of dollars in competitive scholarships for degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students in F-1 status. Tarleton has one scholarship application for most awards available through AcademicWorks. This application does not include scholarships that are awarded through the Honors College or Athletic Departments. Qualified applicants are sent to various scholarship committees for review based on the information provided on the application.

Campus Essentials

Texan Card:

The Texan Card is the university’s identification card issued to students, faculty, staff, and others. It is a photo ID with a magnetic stripe, and is used for a variety of things, such as building access, entry into on-campus events, and Texan Bucks, a stored-value debit system for use on and off-campus. Campus Bookstore:

The campus bookstore offers student the option to purchase their textbooks ahead of time. You can order your books through myGateway and pick them up at the bookstore located at the Thompson Student Center. For more information, please visit the Campus Bookstore website.

Dining Services:

Dining Services at Tarleton offers a variety of dining options on campus. for more information regarding facilities, meal plan options, and other services, please visit the Dining Services website.

Food Pantry:

The Tarleton Food Pantry offers confidential service to Tarleton’s Stephenville campus. Card swipe access with a Tarleton ID is required and allows for easy, discreet shopping. Tarleton Food Pantry.

Housing:

Post Office:

Tarleton Mail Services is a fully functional United States Postal Service (USPS) station that processes all incoming and outgoing mail for the college in a timely, reliable, and confidential manner. Services include:

  • The sale of stamps and money orders
  • Mail box rentals
  • Mailing of packages- express, priority, global priority, certified, insured and registered

The Source:

The Source formally known as the Organizational Zone (O-Zone) is a branch of Student Publications at Tarleton State University. The Source is dedicated to offering support to students and campus departments through various services such as design, printing, copying, binding, lamination, marketing/publicity consultation, and more.

Wellness

Student Counseling Services:

Student Counseling Services (SCS) strives for excellence in providing quality clinical, developmental, and preventative services within a welcoming and supportive learning environment. We offer confidential counseling, clinical assessment and referrals, crisis management, psychiatric services, academic skills counseling, and psychoeducational programming for a diverse student population. We provide consultation services to the Tarleton community and are educators and advocates that promote health and wellness.

Student Health Services:

The mission of Student Health Services is to maintain or restore the health of the students of Tarleton State University to maximum capability to enable them to achieve their academic goals. It is the intent of Student Health Services to deliver quality medical care in a cost effective manner in treating acute illnesses or injuries, evaluating and treating acute exacerbation of chronic illnesses, and referral to appropriate medical care for those medical problems that lie beyond the scope of treatment in the Student Health Services’ office.
