Ways to Support the Library

Support and donations to the Dick Smith Library are welcome and encouraged. Over the years the Library has benefited greatly from many generous donations which have contributed to its collections. These gifts are essential to the continued development of our research and special collections, and provide additional materials and service that might not otherwise be available to our users.

For additional information or to make a donation, contact Tonya Dobson at 254-968-9474.

Join Friends of the Dick Smith Library

The Friends of the Dick Smith Library is an association of individuals interested in strengthening and enhancing the Library collections, and promoting its usefulness to the University and to the community. They play a vital role in maintaining library acquisitions and operations, while sponsoring regular programs and enjoying unique opportunities to participate in special events. Individual memberships and business sponsorships are available.

Make a Cash or Online Donation

You may also provide financial support for the Dick Smith Library. Your cash or online donations allow the library the flexibility to purchase additional needed electronic and print resources, and provide first-rate facilities and technology for Tarleton students and faculty!

Donate to the Scholarship Fund

In 2016, the Friends of the Dick Smith Library endowed a scholarship that will benefit the student employees of the Dick Smith Library. A $750 scholarship will be awarded each Fall and Spring semester.

Honor or Memorialize a Person or Group

A gift of $35 or more purchases a book for the Library that may be made in memory or honor of someone. A bookplate with the name of the donor and the honoree is placed in the front of each title, and a written notification of the gift is made to the donor and to the person or family honored. A librarian will work with the donor if a particular title or subject area is desired as a memorial to their special friend, colleague, or loved one.

Donate Gifts of Materials

Donations of scholarly materials that enhance the instructional and research needs of the University community are appreciated. Responsible stewardship of gift items to the Library collection is as important as the purchases we make, so gifts are accepted with the understanding that the Library reserves the right to determine their retention and location. Items that do not fall within the scope of the collection are sold at the Friends book sales, shared with other libraries, or otherwise disposed of.

The Library adheres to the provisions of current U.S. tax regulations. Tarleton State University is a 501(c)(3) charitable educational organization, so all noncash contributions are tax deductible. Responsibility for determining the value of a gift rests with the donor and all such appraisals must be completed before the material is given to the Library. The Library will provide a written Receipt of Gift which will list the number of items donated, but not each title.
